Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
You can keep the cork in the champagne because there is still a great deal that needs to be addressed before we see Manning take the field.
The most pressing would be which uniform one of the best ever to play will be wearing. It's one thing to throw the ball with some level of power, something Manning wasn't doing a couple weeks ago; it's another to impress a team enough to take a chance on him.
Colts
The March 8 deadline looms for Jim Irsay to decide what he is going to do with Manning. Mike Chappell of IndyStar has some thoughts from Archie Manning on his son's rehabilitation.
"What I’ve seen, he certainly looks fine as far as throwing and velocity on the ball. I did see him a couple of weeks ago; he was in New Orleans. I saw him throw and he looked like Peyton.
He hasn’t had any setbacks throwing. He’s been throwing for two months and has four or five (months) to go before the season starts.”
"
Manning goes on to say that his son and owner Jim Irsay have a special relationship and that they always will. That may sound poignant, but the more likely scenario is Manning being released.
Likely Spots
Fox Sports' Brian Billick weighs in with who he sees as the teams most likely to welcome Manning into the fold.
He dismissed the Dolphins and their newly employed offense and the Redskins as a potential clash in waiting with Manning and Mike Shanahan. He does have three teams he likes though.
"Instead, there are three teams that make more sense for both sides. Seattle, Kansas City and the New York Jets are potential suitors that could not only use Manning in a “win-now” philosophy but also have the appropriate pieces in place to actually attract Manning to town.
"
ESPN's Aaron Schatz echoes one of those teams in his Insider roundup of free-agent targets. Schatz loves the Seahawks' chances for what they bring on defense and in cap space.
"Based on Football Outsiders ratings, the Redskins defense was ranked 14th last season, lower than Seattle (10th) or Miami (11th), and they play in the NFC East. Since the Seahawks have about twice as much cap space as the Dolphins and Flynn fits Miami as a cheaper, lesser alternative, we'll send Manning out west where he can try to teach Zach Miller how to be Dallas Clark.
"
Nothing comes as a surprise anymore in regards to Manning. A player we never thought would play with another team outside of Indianapolis could suit up for Emerald City.
It makes sense when you consider the headaches that would arise in other locales. Seattle would give Manning a chance to win, and more importantly, win his way.
All of this is to say that things are still very much fluid as Manning, for the time being, is a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
