Lakers Trade Rumors: Breaking Down Latest Solutions to Point Guard Problem
The Los Angeles Lakers have too many issues to count. From a shoddy front office being run by Jim Buss' ego, to a bench that is among the thinnest in the NBA, there is a lot to talk about. Here we will concentrate on the point guard problems, and the most likely manner to remedy them.
Years past may have been kind on an aging backcourt, but that was all due to the triangle and an offense that never demanded a true point to run the floor.
This is a new age for Lakers land, and a Mike Brown team demands a star point guard that can move the ball and command a great deal of the offensive production.
Looking at the roster, it's easy to see the Lakers backcourt needs an infusion of youth and depth. Here are the latest rumors on the horizon that may solve this quandary.
ESPN's Chris Broussard revealed the Celtics were actively shopping star point guard Rajon Rondo.
"The Celtics find Rondo's personality to be too high-maintenance and his clashes with coach Doc Rivers remain an off-court distraction, sources told Broussard.
"
This should come as great news to Lakers management, who have long pined for an All-Star caliber point guard. Nick Borges of ESPN reminds us of the following:
"There have been rumors about a Rondo-Pau Gasol swap and now we get news that Boston has talked to Golden State about Stephen Curry, but the Warriors backed off.
"
Before you go out to look for Lakers Rondo jerseys, consider what Danny Ainge stated, via ESPN: "He's our best player, he's the most important part of our future. There's no way we're actively trying to trade Rondo. That make no sense, no logical sense."
This may be one last act of posturing, but the Lakers shouldn't wait to find out. There aren't many game changers on the market, but Rondo would most certainly be that if he is indeed available.
Gilbert Arenas
Don't rest on the idea the Lakers could welcome Gilbert Arenas into the fold.
ESPN's Chris Broussard rumors the Lakers are still in on Arenas and could bring him in to add depth to the backcourt.
"I'm told the Lakers may sign Arenas after the All-Star break (now) or the trade deadline. Arenas, according to a source, was "explosive" and "had his athleticism back" during his recent workout with the Lakers.
"
I still think this is a last-ditch effort if all other avenues are lost. Arenas would be a fine gamble, but he is no guarantee to positive on-court production.
Ramon Sessions
And now for the more likely rumor floating around.
Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld tweets a report the Cavs are fielding offers for a guard that is being viewed quite highly right now.
"Teams continue to express interest in Ramon Sessions. Many executives see him as a starting point guard. Cavs are weighing their options.

ESPN's Ryan Corazza reports the following in his Insider roundup.
"One team that may be in the mix here is the Lakers. Though, it's unlikely the young and rebuilding Cavs are particularly interested in 31-year-old Pau Gasol, whom the Lakers are reportedly dangling in trade talks. (And the Lakers would likely be looking for a few rotation players in return for Gasol.)
"
Essentially, the days of the Cavaliers welcoming merely a pick or the Lakers trade exception for Ramon Sessions may, in fact, be gone.
Sessions has been playing well and the secret is now out.
