Jeremy Lin: How Will NY Knicks Star Fare Against Game's Best PGs?
Jeremy Lin has improved the play of the New York Knicks over the last few weeks, but his spectacular performances will certainly motivate the other top NBA point guards to elevate their own games while going up against the Knicks star.
Last week against the New Jersey Nets, star point guard Deron Williams scored 38 points in a win against Lin's Knicks team that had control of the game until Williams dominated in the second half.
"“I don’t really watch too many games, but I do see Twitter, people tweet me and every, you know, three lines it was ‘Jeremy Lin destroyed Deron Williams,’” Williams said. “So I definitely took offense to that in the first game and definitely, like I said, I had it circled.”
"
You can bet that Williams isn't the only point guard who will circle Knicks games on his calendar—all of them will.
This is a classic situation of the new kid taking the spotlight away from everyone, and the other point guards will want to dominate Lin each night.
In the next two weeks, Lin will be up against several of basketball's best floor generals, who will test him at both ends of the court, including Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Tony Parker, Kyrie Irving and Brandon Jennings.
Those are some fantastic point guards, and the toughest matchups for Lin will be against Rose and Rondo.
Rose is the defending league MVP and will certainly want to show the nation that he's still the model that all point guards should be compared to. Rondo is the best defensive point guard in the NBA and will make Lin work for every point.
If Lin can play well and beat the Bulls and Celtics, then he will gain a ton of confidence heading toward the playoffs. Lin's ability to read defenses well will always make him a talented playmaker. That kind of basketball intelligence stays with you long after your athleticism begins to decline with age.
Lin's all-around offensive game will also help him against the best defensive guards like Rondo because he has good shooting range and can get to the basket and finish at the rim.
With the NBA having more quality point guards than at any other team in league history, Lin getting almost all of the spotlight at the position will certainly anger the other great floor generals in the league.
Lin will be facing playoff-like intensity from every point guard he plays for the rest of the season, and that's a win for the Knicks star. The best way to get better is by playing elite competition in a very competitive environment.
While the NBA's best point guards will do all they can to perform at a high level against Lin, this scenario will benefit Lin just as much, if not more than the rest of the league.
From Lin's perspective, all he can say is bring it on. He's ready to handle whatever the game's greatest guards throw at him.
