LeBron James and Dwyane Wade's Top 10 Alley-Oops Together This Year

Logic JohnsonFeb 29, 2012

News flash: Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are entertaining fellows with a basketball in their hands.

Look, you may hate their guts and call them the death of competitive basketball (I know I do), and you may die a little on the inside every time they flaunt their overwhelming dominance, but denial is another thing entirely.

No self-respecting basketball fan would let their allegiances cloud the fact that these two men do things on the court that are ridiculous to behold. Case in point: the following 10 alley-oops.

These are plays involving either LeBron to Wade or vice-versa (from the first half of the season) and they are intrinsically sick.

January 10th: Honorable Mention

1 of 11

In this case, honorable mention means I don't have any whimsical comments for this one—plus it was in a losing effort—but I know someone is going to bring it up if if doesn't feature.

So here you go.

10. February 23rd: "What Does He Mean Watch the Weak Si— Oh."

2 of 11

Wade's timing on the cut? Perfect.

LeBron's read on the pass? Ideal.

The Kings' defensive rotation? Bush league.

The result? A help-side alley-oop custom-made for highlight reels and team promos, and a resounding reminder that there is no such thing as a weak side when the Big Two is manning both wings at once.

9. January 29th: Transition D, It's What's for Breakfast

3 of 11

Okay, guys. It's easy, we get it...

This is Miami's way of letting "opposing" teams—insofar as this lumbering behemoth is capable of being opposed—that they're in for a long night.

Wade sets up LeBron so nice that he has a moment to ponder life itself before throwing it down.

8. February 19th: LeWade Tea-Bag the World

4 of 11

This one comes off as routine at first, but man, look at all that English...

They're in such perfect sync leading up that LeBron throws some relish on there with the over-the-shoulder lob, and Wade buries the finish in sauerkraut with the extra flourish at the rim.

It's just one of those plays that reminds you—that is to say "critics," myself included—who's got the league by the basketballs.

7. January 27th: "I'll Hit 'Em High, and You... Hit 'Em Higher"

5 of 11

All I can say about this play is there were at least four shoe soles not doing their job of touching the earth.

Also, try and guess how many foot-pounds are in that finish by LeBron. Just for fun...

In general, a fine display of the utter emptiness in the hearts of defenders once one half of this league's MVP pool gets room to maneuver on the break.

6. February 10th: I Call This One "To No JaVale"

6 of 11

Simply put, JaVale McGee bit harder on that fake scoop shot than a saltwater trout with epilepsy.

Seamless, unique and downright artsy. This is one of the Heat's patented "finishing moves," having Wade seemingly go for a partly contested layup—which always gets that last defender off his feet—only to dangle the ball just wide of the basket instead and have LBJ to complete the double-exclamation.

The replay on this one in particular has that "ball on a string" quality that makes it my personal favorite.

5. February 19th: The Half Court Is Hot Lava

7 of 11

Those who know me are aware that my vocabulary contains many imaginary yet self-explanatory words. One of those words—if you'll indulge me—is "risickulous." I think I'll break it out on this one...

Half-court pass above the rim? Sure, why not. It's not like LeBron had the luxury of throwing these back in the day to the likes of Anderson Varejao (a.k.a. Varay-hoe, Vara-John, Vera-Heyo, Va-Rajon, and so many, many more.)

As far as the finish, Wade hangs on the rim for safety, but damned if he doesn't make a postcard out of it anyway.

4. February 21st: The Entire Unpainted Floor Is Hot Lava

8 of 11

First of all, if there's a better way to start off an alley-oop play than a blocked shot, I don't know what it is.

Secondly, you are hereby reminded that LeBron can notch an assist from basically every square inch of the floor, and perhaps a few concession stands (left after the tunnel).

Finally, it shows that the Big Two are so comfortably above the "competition" that they have to break out an in-game round of hot potato just to keep things interesting.

3. December 25th: Merry Christmas, Dallas

9 of 11

This game in general was bound to not go well for the Mavs, what with a cranky Miami squad having just watched them being presented with their rings after having the audacity not to lose to LeBron and co.

Dallas is already down 33, and just when you think their special night can't be any more ruined, LeWade go and throw a video game move at them.

I mean, seriously, a double alley-oop? I'm pretty sure that move was invented by Midway.

2. Dec 30th: The Minnesota Finisher

10 of 11

With the score tied in the closing seconds of a surprisingly close game in Minnesota, the Heat wind up with the ball out of bounds, with (who else?) LeBron inbounding the ball.

D-Wade proceeds to curl around a Chris Bosh pick in the high post—burning Ricky Rubio worse than Satan's toast in the process—and flashes (pun intended) to the basket uncontested.

LeBron hits him in stride with a perfect—if one nanosecond late—pass, which Wade proceeds to lay in the cup to give you your final score. What it lacks in aesthetics, it more than makes up for in significance.

1. January 29th: Able to Leap John Lucas in a Single Bound

11 of 11

As far as Wade is concerned, this is was just another in a seeming infinity—past and future—of lobs to a cutting LeBron. Ah, the sheer relaxation of lofting it up there, night in and night out, knowing ol' King Boy is gonna take care of it...

This, of course, was the plan since 2008.

Not planned, however, was that LeBron would almost nonchalantly vault over another human being in the process. Well, he did. Not the cleanest looking dunk ever, but let's see you do it.

Now, normally, getting dunked on by LeBron James involves some serious contact. Lucky for Lucas (pun intended) there was none, which makes this play even more whoa

Do let me know if I've missed any...
