Jeremy Lin Will Hog the Headlines as NBA's Second Half Begins

Gabe ZaldivarFeb 27, 2012

I hope you enjoyed the last few days of relative sanity, because Jeremy Lin is about to come and destroy just about everything you thought you knew about the NBA

If you want to know how ridiculous things have become in regards to Lin and his rise to superstardom, consider that the All-Star break was the most benign couple days we have seen in the last month, and Lin was still a small part of them.

The only thing you need to know about the NBA moving forward is Jeremy Lin. Sure, you could trouble yourself with the Lakers and their season of mediocrity.

You may even like to consider the Miami Heat and the way they have been dominating from above the rim and in the trenches with defense.

All of that will be lost on the masses, because Lin is back to action, and that means everything else will be pleasantly scooted to the backseat of what we all care about.

Not that this is a bad thing.

Lin has been nothing short of amazing in his brief stint as the Knicks' starting point guard. The Knicks entered the break 17-18 and 3.5 games behind Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division, a lot in life would be far worse if Lin never emerged as a star.

The season has been salvaged, and it's all because of some guy most never heard of before the season started.

While he is doing good in the form of resurrecting a dying franchise, he is uncovering the bad that happens when we fail to correctly grasp a remarkable story.

ESPN faltered with a few ill-timed headlines that had racist labels thrown their way. There was even a tweet fiasco that followed Fox Sports' columnist Jason Whitlock

The fallout wasn't relegated to comments but leaked over into the realm of food, where famed ice cream makers Ben & Jerry created a racist ice cream they have since had to apologize for

The apologies are as plentiful as Lin's turnovers, and so it will continue.

There is no bigger story than Lin, and that fact will continue to be true well into the second half. The man can play, and he continues to polarize the nation.

We love to discuss his merits as much as we are fond of seeing him play. The manic manner of seeing him hit threes seconds after he turns over a ball has us captivated.

Who is this guy?

The fact that we still have no answer means one thing—we will be searching for it all through the rest of the season.
