NBA All-Star Game 2012: NBA Should Be Ashamed for Giving Rajon Rondo Roster Spot
On Sunday, Rajon Rondo embarrassed himself and the league with his childish actions on the court, and the fact he was awarded with an Eastern Conference reserve spot for the 2012 All-Star Game while serving a suspension shows that the NBA is a joke.
Rondo was quickly given praise for his body of work this season, despite the fact he was punished for his recent wrongdoings. The Boston Celtics point guard had two technicals and threw the ball at an official, which is why the league suspended him for two games.
Now that he is being honored with an All-Star spot, replacing the injured Joe Johnson, the NBA should be mortified. It basically shows that you can do essentially whatever you want in the NBA and the repercussions won't be all that bad.
Don't get me wrong, Rondo has had a solid season and a case can be made that he should've been named to the All-Star Game in the first place. However, he wasn't, and when a spot became open, it is a travesty that Rondo was given it over someone that wasn't in trouble with the league.
David Stern has long been criticized for some of his work as NBA commissioner, and this just adds to the list.
Johnson's real replacement should have gone to his Atlanta Hawks teammate, Josh Smith.
The talented forward honestly should have been named to the All-Star Game over Johnson to begin with, and once the Hawks' top guard went down with a left knee injury, it was expected that Smith would take his place.
When Stern picked Rondo instead, it showed that horrible acts of showmanship in the NBA don't mean a thing. The discipline in the NBA is nonexistent in this case, and that is downright pitiful.
Yes, Rondo had a right to be upset that no foul was called on him. After all, the defender practically landed on his head. Still, there was no need for Rondo to react the way he did, as it put his immaturity on full display.
Now Rondo gets to head down to Orlando and participate in the All-Star Game, which is just a joke.
It's great that Rondo served his punishment right away with no questions asked. However, the fact he was granted with an All-Star roster spot during his suspension is just insane.
This prestigious roster spot should have gone to someone that was truly worthy of it, but instead it went to a suspended player. The league should be ashamed for that.
