Dwight Howard and 5 NBA Players Most Likely to Dump You on Valentine's Day
Tomorrow, there will be some real heartbreak around the nation, as countless men and women will be dumped on Valentine's Day.
There are some players who are possibly going to be dumping their teams in the near future, if not tomorrow, then during the offseason.
Here are five players who are destined to break their team's heart by leaving, and one player who will break the hearts of their team's fans by not leaving.
Derek Fisher
1 of 6This just in: Derek Fisher sucks. His per 36 minute averages are horrific, just 7.1 points and 5.1 assists. He pretty much just wears a uniform and roams uselessly about the court. Based on efficiency, he is only the 46th-best point guard in the NBA, which means, that at a minimum, 15 backups are better than he is.
His defense isn't much better. He just gave up 38 points to a D-League, player and his .87 points per play against is 222nd in the NBA.
So, how can Fisher break the hearts of the Lakers? By re-signing instead of resigning, that's how!
Roy Hibbert
2 of 6Roy Hibbert is the lone All-Star on the Indiana Pacers (and in this writer's opinion the right choice). Hibbert is the only All-Star that is a restricted free agent who has not already signed an extension. Derrick Rose, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook are all extended.
Hibbert, however, is ready to hit the market. It's also not a guarantee that the price-conscious Pacers are going to match any and all offers. Hibbert could fetch eight figures on the open market, and the Pacers might not be wanting to pony up that much.
From Real GM:
""
If Indiana wants to retain Hibbert, an offer sheet from another team, potentially one that strikes out on Dwight Howard, could drive up his price for the cost-conscious franchise. A source close to the situation told Andrew Perna of RealGM that Hibbert could easily earn a deal with an annual value of between $9 million and $11 million based on how he plays over the remainder of the season.
Remember, this is a league where DeAndre Jordan just gobbled up a $10 million contract. Hibbert is better than Jordan.
Steve Nash
3 of 6Steve Nash hasn't just courted the city of Phoenix, they've gotten married, had children together and raised them. This is a romance that is the NBA version of The Notebook in terms of quality of romance. They really love each other.
But could Nash chase that ring after his contract expires? It's not impossible to believe. He lives in Manhattan in the offseason.
This could be the unwritten alternate ending to the movie where Allie, at the tender age of 37, unexpectedly leaves Noah to go chase after the finer things in life with Lon.
Jeremy Lin
4 of 6Right now, who is more popular in New York City, Eli Manning, the man who just won a second Super Bowl, or Jeremy Lin, the waiver-wire, D-League pickup who has started five games? If you even have to consider that, it's a statement.
Jeremy Lin might be the most popular face in the city of New York now, but he could shatter the hearts of the masses if he keeps playing like he started.
Why? Because the better he plays, the more he raises his value. The more he raises his free-agent value, the lower the chances of the Knicks being able to keep him. As a waiver wire pickup, there are no Bird rights, and the most the Knicks can offer is the $5 million mid-level exception.
For a guy that is living on his brother's couch, the money could actually mean something.
Deron Williams
5 of 6Deron Williams is betrothed to the city of New Jersey and their Nets right now. It's an arranged romance that just isn't working.
Some people have criticized him, but really he never agreed to come to New Jersey. He never asked to be traded from Utah. Unlike Carmelo Anthony or Dwight Howard, he never said anything about wanting out of the situation he was in before his contract ended.
He's tried to love the girl he's betrothed to, but there's a few problems: She's ugly, not very bright and doesn't have a sparkling personality.
Meanwhile, he's being wooed by his hometown of Dallas. Don't be surprised if and when he spurns New Jersey for the Mavs.
Dwight Howard
6 of 6And the biggest shock of all is the No. 1 spot being filled by Dwight Howard. While many Howard and Orlando Magic fans have prepared themselves to watch Howard go even, they may get their hearts broken.
The problem that Howard has presented is that, with his indecisive nature, he's goaded management into believing he might not leave. Therefore, Orlando is considering not trading him at all.
Now, if Howard leaves for more ring-filled pastures, Orlando not only doesn't get Howard, they don't get anything in exchange for him either.
This isn't just a divorce. It's a divorce with a prenup where the aggrieved party doesn't even get any alimony.
