NBA Rumors: League Further Destroys Hornets by Pulling Kaman off Trade Market
The NBA-run New Orleans Hornets are being destroyed by the forces running them. This is a team that is in need of a new owner, but can't get out of its way long enough to make that team attractive to any buyer in his right mind.
The first example, and highly publicized example, of this was the Chris Paul debacle. We don't need to rehash that process, but it is worth mentioning that the outcome is not working out so well.
The two centerpieces of that trade were the Minnesota Timberwolves first-round selection and Eric Gordon. Well, all of a sudden the Minnesota draft pick is not as desirable as they are currently at .500.
Even more worrisome is the fact that the club did not sign Eric Gordon to an extension before the deadline.
While he is a restricted free agent after the season, given the fact that they didn't shell out the coin for him now, they might not be eager to match sweet offers he is destined to receive at the end of the year.
Now, they are squandering the opportunity to pick up additional value for the trade that sent away the biggest star the franchise has ever seen.
The Rumors
These rumors come to us via John Reid of the Times Picayune:
"The New Orleans Hornets are taking center Chris Kaman off the trade market for now and will permit him to return to the team, league sources confirmed Friday afternoon.
There have been several teams, including the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers, that expressed an interest to obtain Kaman in a trade. But league sources confirmed the Hornets were unable to land what they were seeking in a deal.
"
These rumors are believable as no level of stupidity from this franchise would currently surprise me, and there is no doubt these rumors are downright dumb.
Trade Kaman Now
The Hornets were so determined to trade Kaman that they had inactivated him. This is not a good way to build up value in a player. Now, if these rumors are to be believed, they are going to activate him again in what can only be construed as a desperate attempt to rebuild his value.
This is insane. Every team in the league knows how desperate they are to trade him, and he is not likely to return and all of a sudden set the world on fire.
If he does, it would be at the detriment of the youngsters that they had reduced Kaman's role for in the first place.
According to the reports, they already had two teams expressing interest. They should have just played those two off of each other and got the best deal possible. They aren't going to get a better off for him than that, and now they may get nothing at all.
