National Signing Day 2012: Pac-12's Biggest Future Busts

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

It happens every year. A recruit receives a ton of hype well before he can ever prove his worth, and once he gets to the college level he ends up becoming a nobody.

Whether the recruit cracked under pressure, got into trouble or was just never as good as advertised, each recruiting class features a number of busts.

The class of 2012 won't be any different, but as always, it takes a couple years before we can truly tell who will amount to nothing at the college level.

With that said, here are a few future Pac-12 players certain to be big busts.

Shaq Thompson, S

Already committed to play for the California Golden Bears, Thompson is thinking about changing schools after recruiting coordinator Tosh Lupoi took a new job at Washington. He'll still end up in the Pac-12, though, as the other schools he's thinking about are Washington and Oregon.

Listed at 6'2" and 210 pounds, Thompson is viewed as the No. 1 safety in the class of 2012. He's a quick and hard-hitting defender with a great frame, which is why so many teams were after him.

However, as seen on Twitter, he's a diva in the making, and that will not end well. He even used Twitter to let influence his decision on dropping USC from his top choices, which was very childish.

Thompson first committed to Cal, then decommitted, then recommitted, and is likely to decommit again.

He has all the tools to succeed, but his recruiting process raises red flags all over, and I see this diva defender thinking he's too cool for school, so to speak, and he'll fail to live up to the hype.

Barry Sanders, Jr., RB

The son of one of the greatest NFL running backs ever, Sanders has a heavy burden on him already. He's playing the position his father excelled at, and it will be tough to follow in his foot steps.

Sanders is headed to Stanford, where he's likely to get buried on the depth chart.

Listed at 5'10" and 190 pounds, Sanders will have a tough time thriving against the bigger defenders, as his size will limit him from doing great things.

The 4-star running back will struggle to break tackles and also has a durability concern, which is why he will be a Pac-12 bust.

Kevon Seymour, ATH

This 4-star athlete is headed to the USC Trojans, and he has the skills to play corner or wide receiver, as well as make an impact in the return game.

However, at 5'11", 170 pounds, Seymour is going to get crushed at the college level. Sure, he can add bulk, but it will take some time, which will increase his chances of being a big-time bust.

Plus, he's joining a team that is loaded with star athletes. Seymour will struggle to find playing time, and that is why he will be a bust.

He isn't exceptionally fast, and his coverage skills aren't top-notch. If he plays on the offensive side of the ball, it will be awhile before he gets a chance to shine, and by that time the Trojans will have added more and more talent, making life much harder for Seymour.
