5 Reasons Tom Brady Is Still the Best QB in NFL
Forget about Aaron Rodgers. Forget about Drew Brees. Forget about Peyton Manning. Forget about every quarterback you thought might be better than he is.
Brady has been the best quarterback in the NFL for the past decade, and his recent six-touchdown performance against the Denver Broncos has reminded us of that. To be honest, that's probably what he was aiming for.
Here are five reasons why you should still consider Brady as No. 1.
Three Rings
1 of 5Tom Brady has three Super Bowl rings. He's 3-for-4 in the big game and has more rings than any other active quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger is the only other active quarterback with multiple rings.
Brady won his three in just four years and should have won another against the New York Giants in 2008. He gave his team a lead at the end of the game. His defense let him down.
This guy is a winner and comes up big in the big game every time.
We'll see if he gets a chance to do it again this year.
Playoff Record
2 of 5Brady has gone 15-5 over the course of his career in the playoffs. That includes going 10-0 through his first 10 playoff games.
He leads active NFL quarterbacks in playoff wins by far (second place is Ben Roethlisberger with 10). In fact, Joe Montana is the only quarterback ever to win more playoff games than Brady.
A win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday would tie Montana's record and a Super Bowl win would make Brady the winningest quarterback in NFL playoff history.
Wins
3 of 5Brady isn't just a clutch guy in the playoffs. He's also consistent during the regular season.
His career regular-season record of 124 wins and just 35 losses makes him the second-winningest active quarterback behind Peyton Manning (by total wins).
He's tied for fifth in total wins all-time and is No. 1 all-time in regular-season winning percentage (78 percent).
He's a giant in winning percentage over all other active quarterbacks, with the closest being Ben Roethlisberger.
Even Big Ben is eight percent behind.
Records
4 of 5Tom Brady holds more quarterback records than all the other quarterbacks in the NFL combined.
Here are just a few of his records:
Fewest starts to achieve 100 wins (131 starts)
Most consecutive wins (21)
Only quarterback to start and win three Super Bowls before his 28th birthday
Most passing touchdowns in one season (50)
Most passing touchdowns in one month (20)
Highest touchdown-to-interception ratio in a season (9-to-1)
Highest touchdown-to-interception ratio in a career (2.52-to-1)
Largest passing yards-to-interception ratio (337.3-to-1)
Most career Super Bowl completions (100)
Most consecutive regular-season pass attempts without an interception (358)
Those are just a few of the records. Yeah, anyone else out there who can even hope to match that? Nope.
Awards
5 of 5When it comes to being the best quarterback in the league, winning is the most important thing.
Tom Brady has done that and done it consistently in the regular season and postseason. Records are important too, and we've established that Brady has plenty of those.
But accolades mean something as well, and Brady is probably the most decorated quarterback in NFL history.
Here are some of the things he's earned:
Pro Bowl selection (seven times)
All-Pro (three times)
Super Bowl MVP (twice)
SI Sportsman of the Year
Sporting News Sportsman of the Year
AP Male Athlete of the Year
AP NFL MVP (twice)
AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year (twice)
NFL Comeback Player of the Year
NFL 2000s All-Decade Team
Brady's clearly won the awards, set the records and won the games. He's the best, pure and simple. No other active quarterback comes close to him in those areas, and few quarterbacks do all-time.
