Los Angeles Clippers: Chris Paul and Blake Griffin Captivate Los Angeles

Austen E. MarshellJan 11, 2012

The Los Angeles Clippers have made a complete metamorphosis. They not only beat the Miami Heat 95-89 at the Staples Center Wednesday night, but they won an overtime game that demonstrated what type of team they can really be.

So, what is it now? Lob City or Block City?

Less than two minutes into the game, Blake Griffin caught an alley-oop from Chris Paul to take a 6-3 lead, and immediately put the Staples Center crowd into a frenzy.

Griffin finished the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Paul filled the stat sheet with 26 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds in the win. Paul only had one turnover.

The Clippers looked as if they weren't sure how to pull it all together as they trailed throughout the second quarter. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade seemed confident, and the Heat led 48-43 at the half.

That's when Paul turned it on.

The third quarter was all about CP3 as he was hitting jumpers, driving the lane, and dished out the assist of the night to DeAndre Jordan with 30 seconds left for a 70-69 lead.

Jordan dominated the paint and finished the game with 11 rebounds and six blocks.

James missed two crucial free throws for the Heat in the fourth quarter, while Paul missed a floater that would've gotten the Clippers a victory in regulation at the buzzer.

After tonight's victory against one of the best teams in the East, it is going to be interesting to see how the Clippers play out the month with a Western Conference-heavy schedule for the remainder of January.

Due to the short season, conference games will be more critical for playoff seedings. The Clippers are still getting used to all the attention.

Their next game is Saturday at home game against the building-sharing Lakers. They will be tested at the end of the month by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who is currently first in the West at 10-2.
