Alabama vs. LSU: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Tigers Must Make
It's halftime in New Orleans...
Here are five ways the LSU Tigers can pull away in the second half.
5. Calm Down
The Tigers definitely looked more anxious in the first half than the Alabama Crimson Tide, making uncharacteristic mental errors that proved costly. Between dropped snaps, an over-kicked punt, lining up in the neutral zone and plenty more problems, LSU just looked sloppy for the first 30 minutes. It's a big stage, but Les Miles need to keep his team calm.
4. Shake Things Up
Jordan Jefferson's option, which had been so successful in the first meeting between these two teams, has been largely ineffective today. While it's certainly still a viable option, LSU can't rely on it and expect results. Some trick plays or misdirections could work wonders to open up the run.
3. Stay Aggressive on D
Alabama may have had success in the passing game so far, but that doesn't mean LSU should start dropping back into coverage. Several of McCarron's throws have been very dangerous, and if the Tigers maintain the pressure they've been forcing they will eventually be rewarded.
2. Win the Battle at the Line
The Crimson Tide line, on both sides of the ball, has definitely gotten the better of LSU in the first half. That needs to change in the second if the Tigers are going to win. Trent Richardson has been on the verge of breaking out on several plays, while Jordan Jefferson has been immediately harassed every time he snaps the ball.
This needs to be a point of emphasis in the second frame: control the line and you can control the game.
1. Be Patient
As frustrating as it is to struggle on offense, one big play could change the entire complexion of the game. LSU can't try to do too much on every play; as long as the Tigers keep playing their game the breaks will start to go their way.
