Former WWE Star Baron Corbin Reveals New Ring Name as 'The Nomad' Bishop Dyer
Former WWE Superstar Baron Corbin revealed that he will now be going by the name "The Nomad" Bishop Dyer following his WWE departure.
Corbin revealed the news during an interview with Chris Van Vliet (h/t WrestleTalk) that premiered Thursday, saying:
"I'm going with 'The Nomad' Bishop Dyer, I'm gonna be The Nomad. I'm gonna roam and I'm gonna go to all these [different promotions]. It kind of pays tribute to The Lone Wolf, Dire Wolf, and then a bishop is higher than a baron, so we're going up.
"I think it's just a powerful name, it's a cool name, and I want to be The Nomad. I'm gonna float and see where the wrestling world takes me in that sense."
Corbin, whose real name is Tom Pestock, signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2012 after spending some time in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals as an offensive lineman.
His initial gimmick in WWE was that of a dark, mysterious and dominant figure known as "The Lone Wolf" Baron Corbin, which he parlayed into a call-up from NXT to the main roster in 2016.
Corbin went through several character changes from that point forward, going from Constable of Raw to King Corbin after winning the King of the Ring tournament, followed by the gimmick of a wrestler down on his luck and then Happy Corbin.
He even revitalized himself with a second run in NXT in 2023 and 2024, winning the NXT Tag Team Championships with Bron Breakker, but Corbin was never quite able to carve out a consistent role for himself when he got called back up.
After being informed in November that WWE would not be renewing his contract, Corbin announced that he officially became a free agent on Jan. 1.
While the 40-year-old veteran's WWE run likely didn't end the way he hoped, he enjoyed a lot of success in the company, including being a one-time United States champion, King of the Ring and Money in the Bank ladder match winner.
He also won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 and he beat Kurt Angle in the final match of his illustrious career at WrestleMania 35.
Although Corbin could potentially have the option of signing with a promotion such as AEW, TNA or New Japan Pro-Wrestling, his comments to Van Vliet suggest he wants to take a different path.
As "The Nomad" Bishop Dyer, Corbin is seemingly poised to leave his mark on multiple pro wrestling companies, which is a blueprint that has worked well for some after leaving WWE.
Drew McIntyre did it with great success before returning to WWE and becoming world champion, as did Cody Rhodes before the formation of AEW and his eventual return to WWE.
The best current example is Matt Cardona, who has essentially been the king of the independent scene since leaving behind his Zack Ryder persona after his WWE release in 2020.
If Corbin experiences a similar amount of success as the aforementioned stars, it is possible another WWE run could be in his future.
