Eagles' Jahan Dotson: Won't Take Commanders Trade Personal 'Until I See Washington'

Andrew PetersAug 24, 2024

Jahan Dotson understands that the NFL is a business, so when the Washington Commanders traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles this week, he knew it wasn't personal.

The wide receiver said while he isn't going to dwell on the trade, he will be taking it personally when the Eagles face the Commanders this season.

"I talked to coach Dan Quinn and Mr. Adam Peters and they told me they think very highly of me," Dotson said. "It was kind of just something that happens, you know. These things happen all the time in the NFL. I'm not going to take it personal until I see Washington."

Dotson, a first-round pick out of Penn State in 2022, spent the first two years of his career with the Commanders, and he was surprised to see it end so abruptly.

"It was a shock, you know? Just because all I know in the NFL is Washington Commanders," he said. "But at the end of the day, it's a business, and I understand that very much so."

But all he can do now is focus on getting better and helping the Eagles improve. Dotson is coming off a strong second season, recording 518 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He took a slight step back from his rookie year when he had 523 yards and seven touchdowns, but he's shown what he's capable of early on in his career.

The Eagles have two matchups with the Commanders this year, the first on Nov. 14 and the second on Dec. 22. Expect Dotson to step up his game for both of those matchups.

Until then, Philadelphia will look to get off to a strong start to the year, opening up its season against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6.

The Eagles looked like the best team in the NFL through their first 11 games, going 10-1 in that stretch. Things quickly fell apart, however, and Philadelphia finished the year 11-6 and faced a wild-card exit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs.

Adding a talented wide receiver in Dotson, the Eagles will look for better results this year.
