3-Team NBA Trade Ideas: Deals for Kyle Kuzma, Andrew Wiggins, Jerami Grant, More
We saw the NBA's first six-team trade go down this summer, a deal that was highlighted by Klay Thompson joining the Dallas Mavericks.
While it might be some time before we see this many teams agree on anything, it did create a desire to see some more wild concoctions.
The following trade ideas all involve three teams (or more) while providing a resolution for some of the top names on the trade market—a list that includes Brandon Ingram, Zach LaVine, Jerami Grant, Kyle Kuzma and others.
Let's get wild.
Jerami Grant to Bucks, Khris Middleton to Warriors in 3-Team Deal
1 of 3
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: F Jerami Grant
Golden State Warriors Receive: F Khris Middleton
Portland Trail Blazers Receive: SG Moses Moody, SF Andrew Wiggins
Remember when the Bucks traded for one of the Blazers stars last offseason? What if they just, like, did that again?
Khris Middleton is a better all-around player than Jerami Grant, but he's also struggled to stay healthy in recent years and had arthroscopic surgeries on both ankles this offseason. If the Bucks have any hesitations about Middleton's ability to stay on the court, swapping him for Grant (who's also two years younger) makes sense.
A starting five of Damian Lillard, Gary Trent Jr., Grant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez would remain one of the best in the East, as Grant averaged 21.0 points and made 40.2 percent of his threes last season. Lillard and Grant already carry a year of experience together from their 2022-23 season with the Blazers.
The Warriors are essentially swapping Andrew Wiggins for Middleton here, as Moody may not even play much this upcoming season with the additions of Buddy Hield and De'Anthony Melton combined with Brandin Podziemski entering the starting lineup full-time.
Middleton's shooting, passing and overall versatility make him a strong fit in Golden State, and the Warriors should be thrilled to get off Wiggins' contract.
Portland saves money by swapping Grant (four years, $132.4 million) out for Wiggins (three years, $84.7 million) and gets to take a look at Moody, 22, before he enters restricted free agency next summer.
Kyle Kuzma to Heat, Malcolm Brogdon to Magic, Wizards Speed Up Rebuild
2 of 3
Miami Heat Receive: F Kyle Kuzma
Orlando Magic Receive: PG Malcolm Brogdon, G/F Josh Richardson, 2026 second-round pick (via Los Angeles Lakers)
Washington Wizards Receive: G Cole Anthony, F Jett Howard, F Nikola Jović, F Duncan Robinson, 2029 first-round pick (top-5 protected, via Miami Heat*)
After finishing as the No. 8 seed in the East and going through the play-in tournament last year, the Heat could use a little more firepower to get them back toward the top of the East.
Kuzma, 29, averaged 22.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and made 35.5 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes last season. He'd be an ideal starting power forward between Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebyao as a scoring threat who can space the floor and serve as a willing passer.
Signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was great for Orlando, although he does little to improve its offensive creation issue. Bringing in a proven point guard such as Malcom Brogdon (15.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 41.2 percent from three) would inject some life into this Orlando offense while Richardson is a versatile wing the Magic can plug into the rotation.
The Wizards get a nice haul of young players and draft picks in return for their veterans. Cole Anthony, Jett Howard and Nikola Jović are all between 20 and 24 years of age while Robinson's shooting makes life easier for everyone.
Cam Johnson to Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. to Pistons in 3-Team Deal
3 of 3
Denver Nuggets Receive: F Cam Johnson, F Ziaire Williams
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Michael Porter Jr.
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F/C Isaiah Stewart, SG Tim Hardaway Jr., 2025 second-round pick (via Toronto Raptors, 2027 second-round pick (via Detroit Pistons)
Cam Johnson and Michael Porter Jr. are similar players with their 6'8" frames and strong three-point shooting.
Swapping Porter for Johnson saves the Nuggets a lot of future money, though, as the latter will make $68.8 million over the next three years while the former stands to earn $115 million.
This kind of savings will help the Nuggets keep their core of Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon together while not sacrificing Porter's skill set. Denver saves $6.1 million this season and another $6.1 million next summer when Williams' contract expires in addition to the salary drop from Porter to Johnson.
The Pistons should be thrilled to add Porter, a lifetime 41.0 percent three-point shooter, to a roster that ranked tied for last in made threes (11.0) and 26th in accuracy (34.8 percent). Plugging him into the starting lineup at small forward gives players like Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey more driving space to operate in.
The rebuilding Nets save some long-term money in this deal by taking on Tim Hardaway Jr.'s expiring $16.1 million contract and can flip him to a contender by the deadline.
Stewart, 23, is a good enough three-point shooter to play next to Nic Claxton and can become a building block in Brooklyn. The Nets also get a few second-round picks in the deal.
Note: Trade cannot be completed until Sept. 17 since Williams is being aggregated following a previous trade from the Memphis Grizzlies.
