Drake Maye Addresses Late INT That Sealed Seahawks Win vs. Patriots in NFL Season Opener

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye threw three interceptions during his team's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Wednesday's season opener, but it was the final one in the end zone to Josh Jobe that stood out the most.

"Didn't put enough on it," Maye told reporters. "… It was just unacceptable. We have a chance to send it to overtime at the worst, and the only thing you can't do is turn the ball over."

He also said he "lost patience and cost us."

While the Patriots let a 10-0 lead slip away in the second half, they were still in ideal position on their final drive. 

After all, the defense just held Seattle to a field goal and gave Maye the ball back with the chance to score the winning touchdown in the final moments. By the time he converted his second fourth-down attempt of the drive, it seemed like the visitors were going to find the end zone.

The interception came after the Patriots drove into the red zone, making it all the more difficult to accept considering a field goal would have forced overtime.

It wasn't the only late mistake for Maye, who threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter alone after struggling to consistently move the ball against Seattle's stout defense for much of the game.

That allowed the Seahawks to come back even though they were playing without quarterback Sam Darnold, who suffered a hip injury during their first possession and never returned. It wasn't the only notable injury, as Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown also exited with a setback.

With Brown not on the field during those fourth-quarter drives, Maye threw the critical interceptions and opened the door for the Seahawks to come back and start the season with a win.

Maye and the Patriots will look to bounce back in Week 2 when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers at home.
