Anthony Edwards on T-Wolves' Game 7 vs. Nuggets: 'I Want to Win for Myself'
Mike Conley has never won a Game 7 in his 17 NBA seasons, but that isn't motivation for his Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Anthony Edwards heading into the final game of the conference semifinals against the Denver Nuggets.
Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Edwards wants to win Game 7 for himself.
"I want to win for myself," Edwards said. "I wasn't with Mike whenever he was playing Game 7s so that has nothing to do with me. I want to win for myself."
It was a somewhat fitting answer for Edwards, who has made it clear through his play and his words that he is locked in on bringing a title to Minnesota and isn't concerned with the narratives off the court. Edwards is averaging 30.2 points per game this season, picking up three 40-point outings along the way.
The Wolves faced an elimination game on Thursday after the Nuggets won three straight, but Edwards and Minnesota responded with a dominant 45-point win. Now, the Timberwolves will look to put the series against the defending champs away on Sunday to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2004.
As for Conley, he'll look to get the first Game 7 win of his career, even though Edwards isn't necessarily thinking of him. Conley has had a quiet yet accomplished career but has been to the conference finals just once in 2013 when the San Antonio Spurs swept the Memphis Grizzlies. He's looking to change that on Sunday.
If Conley and Minnesota can carry their momentum over from Game 6, they will be one step closer to the first Finals appearance in Timberwolves history.
