Army All-American Bowl 2012: Roster, Recruit Highlights and Commitment Tracker
The 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl is just days away, and there are tons of star-studded recruits ready to show the country what they're made of.
This is a little different than the Under Armour All-America Game, as the head coaches of the East and West teams aren't former NFL head coaches, but rather high school coaches from some of the best teams in the country.
Robert Weiner of H.B. Plant High School (Tampa, Fla.) is the head coach for the East squad, and Tony Severino of Rockhurst High School (Kansas City, Mo.) is the head coach of the West squad.
Still, the Army-All American Game has exceptional skill players that are sure to steal the show. Expect a lot of big plays with such great offensive talent on both rosters.
With that said, let's take a look at some specifics of the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
When: Saturday, Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. ET
Where: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Watch: NBC
Roster
The entire roster can be viewed here, courtesy of Rivals.com.
There are nearly 100 recruits playing in this game, and the majority of the elite ones have yet to pick a school. Some of the best athletes have already made their decisions, and we'll discuss who those are as well.
Of course, anything can change between now and National Signing Day. No verbal commitment is truly safe in today's day and age of college football.
Top Undeclared Recruits
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
The No. 1 overall prospect in the country, Green-Beckham is going to be a star from day one, wherever he goes that is.
Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham isn't giving many hints as to where he might land. His top choices are Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri, according to ESPN.
Of course, nobody truly knows what he is feeling right now, but since he is from Missouri they could be a sleeper. According to Rivals.com, Texas is the only school he has visited, which could mean they're the top team.
Its uncertain where he is leaning, but one things for sure; wherever he goes, that team's offense will become much more dangerous.
Stefon Diggs, ATH
Another recruit that's keeping quiet is Diggs, who has the skills to play wide receiver or running back, as well as making an impact in the return game.
Diggs is the top overall athlete in the class of 2012, and his speed is sure to impress in this game. He excels at making defenders miss, and will definitely make an impact as a freshman.
Unfortunately, we don't yet know where Diggs will end up. Rivals.com reports that his only visit so far has been to Cal. His other top choices include Florida, Auburn, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Listed at 6'0", 185 pounds, Diggs will be utilized like Percy Harvin was at the college level, and is certainly a player you can expect big things from in 2012 and beyond.
Tracy Howard, CB
The nations No. 1 cornerback, Howard has interest from all over the country. He has a visit scheduled with LSU later this month, as well as with USC. He's already made trips to Florida State and West Virginia.
Being from Florida, he's likely to stay in-state, but you never really know. Miami, Florida and Alabama are also high on his list.
Listed at 5'11", 175 pounds, Howard will need to add bulk, but it's not a big issues. He's a physical player with great coverage ability, which is why he is so highly coveted.
Arik Armstead, DE/OT
Armstead is a very versatile recruit, which is one of the reasons so many schools are after him. Since he de-committed from USC, it opened the door for a number of other schools to try and get him.
He's the No. 1 overall recruit by Scout.com, which lists him as a offensive tackle. ESPN also has him listed as an OT, but Rivals.com puts him as a defensive end. Listed at 6'8", 280 pounds, Armstead is a powerful force up front that is sure to shine at the next level.
What position he plays at in college will boil down to which school he picks. Armstead was expected to choose from Oregon, California, Notre Dame, Texas and Auburn at this game, but according to Damon Sayles of ESPN, Armstead has pushed his announcement back.
The reason is because he just isn't sure yet, which is perfectly fine. Expect Armstead to be one of the guys to make his final choice on National Signing Day.
Top Committed Recruits
Gunner Kiel, QB, LSU
The nation's No. 1 QB according to Scout.com, Kiel gave the LSU Tigers quite a Christmas present. His decision to play for LSU should also have impact on several others in the coming weeks.
Kiel is the ideal pro-style QB, and because he is enrolling early, he definitely shakes things up at QB for the Tigers in 2012.
Zach Mettenberger should be the starter, but rising sophomores Stephen Rivers and Jerrard Randall will also have their say. Once the depth chart is announced, likely after spring ball, expect at least one of those guys to transfer out.
Kiel will get some good minutes in this game, and he should connect with Stefon Diggs in the process. It's too bad he and Green-Beckham aren't on the same team because that would've been very fun to watch.
D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida
Humphries is the No. 1 OT in the country and No. 3 overall prospect by Rivals.
Listed at 6'5, 265 pounds, Humphries will need to put on some weight, but this is rarely a concern for a guy headed to an SEC program.
Humphries will help the Gators run game tremendously, and is one of many big-time recruits Will Muschamp desperately needed to land.
John Theus, OT, Georgia
While the Georgia Bulldogs are making news for landing the No. 1 running back, one of the more underrated pickups for Georgia is John Theus, who should make an impact immediately.
The Bulldogs offense line takes hits every year, which means picking up Theus was a big deal for them.
Listed at 6'6", 292 pounds, Theus is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country, and Rivals.com compares him to a recent first-round draft choice, Anthony Castonzo of the Indianapolis Colts.
For a team that is in dire need of a better run game, the Bulldogs are making great strides on the 2012 recruiting trail to ensure their ground and pound improves.
Kyle Kalis, OT, Michigan
Rated as the No. 21 overall player for Rivals.com, who happens to compare him to Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns, Kalis is an excellent addition to Brady Hoke's Wolverines.
Hoke is transitioning Michigan's offense back to a dominant ground game, meaning he needed to get some very strong lineman.
Listed at 6'5", 302 pounds, Kalis was originally committed to play for Ohio State. After the Jim Tressel fallout, the Ohio native changed his mind and decided to play for the Buckeyes biggest rival.
Expect Kalis to mature into the Wolverines next great offensive lineman, helping pave the way for skilled running backs to make big plays. Perhaps he can talk to Stefon Diggs, East teammate during this game, and persuade him to play for the Wolverines.
If he does, he likely won't be the only committed recruit making sales pitches to the elite undeclared recruits.
