POSITIVES

— Good athletic ability, foot quickness and dexterity using his hands.

— Can chew up ground in his pass sets to beat defenders to the spot.

— Quickly comes to balance and gets out of compromising positions to regain control of blocks.

— Capable puller with the burst to close ground, line up and intersect his target.

— Battled and held his own against Ohio State's J.T. Tuimoloau and Illinois' Jer'Zhan Newton

NEGATIVES

— Adequate length with a persistently late outside hand creates easy access to his edge and a short corner against widely aligned speed rushers.

— Tends to get caught on his heels by the long-arm and forced into scramble mode.

— Mediocre mass, girth and lower-body strength.

2023 STATISTICS

— 10 starts; nine at right tackle and one at right guard

NOTES

— 0-star recruit from the 2019 class, per 247Sports

— Transferred to Maryland for the 2023 season after spending the prior four seasons at Frostburg State (then-Division III before moving up to Division II in 2022), where he had 35 starts at left tackle

OVERALL

Gottlieb Ayedze is a four-year starter at each tackle spot with three years of starting experience at left tackle at Frostburg State and one at right tackle this past season at Maryland. Ayedze started 10 games at Maryland: nine at right tackle, one at right guard, including rotating between the two spots during games. Ayedze has a lean, angular build with adequate arm length, good athletic ability and body control.

Ayedze is an adequate run-blocker who wins with grip strength and strain after initial contact to secure rush lanes just long enough on base and angle-drive blocks with the movement skills to line up, attach and/or log targets as a puller. He has unrefined footwork with middling power that needs work before he sees an NFL field, but his foot quickness, body control and dexterity using his hands gives him a shot at becoming more functional in this area, especially since he was only exposed to a Division I program for one season.

In pass protection, Ayedze shows most of his promise using quick feet, hands and easy redirect skills to mirror and recover in one-on-one scenarios. He gets caught on his heels against the long-arm, forcing him into recovery mode too often, and he plays with a soft outside edge against the cross-chop.

Overall, Ayedze is a relative newcomer to football at a high level, yet he has the quickness, body control, balance and dexterity using his hands that are worth developing. He will need to refine his footwork in the run game and improve his lower-body strength to stick in the NFL long-term.
