NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: J.J. McCarthy's Private Giants Workout Scheduled for Easter
New York Giants officials will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Sunday for a private workout with Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
While team reps were on hand for Michigan's pro day, neither general manager Joe Schoen nor head coach Brian Daboll attended the event. The private throwing session will allow them to take a closer look at McCarthy before the 2024 NFL draft.
The Giants could plausibly take a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick despite being only one year removed from handing Daniel Jones a massive extension. Jones is recovering from a torn ACL, and his regression on the field last season raised questions about whether he's the Giants' long-term solution at quarterback after all.

Final Consensus NFL Mock Draft 📝
The team signed Drew Lock this offseason to back up Jones and potentially open the season under center depending on Jones' recovery. Daboll attempted to rule out a quarterback controversy before it could gain any steam, but using a top-10 pick on McCarthy would suggest that Jones' days in New York are numbered.
With that said, there's no guarantee McCarthy even makes it to the Giants at No. 6. The Washington Commanders are reportedly warming to the idea of taking McCarthy with the No. 2 overall pick, which led his odds of being the second player taken to move dramatically.
Even if the Commanders wind up taking LSU's Jayden Daniels or North Carolina's Drake Maye, another team could leapfrog the Giants and trade up to No. 4 or No. 5. The Minnesota Vikings (No. 11), Denver Broncos (No. 12) and Las Vegas Raiders (No. 13) could all use a quarterback, and one of the three might want to leave nothing to chance.
McCarthy's workout could help determine how seriously the Giants pursue him. Given both where they are in the first round and the likely run at quarterback with the first three picks, the Giants will have the opportunity to land a major difference-maker at another position should they shift their focus.
