Amid rumors that the Washington Commanders are leaning toward drafting Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, his odds of being taken second overall have surged.

After his pro day and the speculation that the Commanders are leaning toward taking him, McCarthy's odds to be taken No. 2 by the Commanders are now at +500 on DraftKings Sportsbook, up from the +2500 they were at before, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

McCarthy's stock has risen throughout the offseason, but now it seems he could be one of the first players off the board.

Bleacher Report's Scouting Department considers McCarthy to be the No. 54 overall prospect and the No. 4 quarterback prospect in the latest big board. In the most recent mock draft, McCarthy is projected to land with the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 8 pick.

USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels and North Carolina's Drake Maye are considered to be the top three quarterbacks in the draft class by Bleacher Report's Scouting Department and Maye is projected to land with Washington at No. 2 in the latest mock draft.

Last season, McCarthy had 2,991 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions while leading Michigan to a national championship. McCarthy doesn't have the same numbers that Williams, Daniels and Maye boast, but he clearly showed something in his pro day that the Commanders liked.
