Predicting the Reported 4 Extra Matches WWE Adds to WrestleMania 40 Card
With WrestleMania 40 on the horizon, WWE still has time to produce a concise two-night event featuring its most popular superstars.
It's hard to believe the company's biggest show of the year is two weeks away and big names such as Bianca Belair, Bobby Lashley and Rey Mysterio still aren't scheduled to compete.
After a great showing in the women's Royal Rumble match, it's also baffling that Jade Cargill still hasn't joined a brand and started a feud with anyone.
SmackDown has also devoted so much time to the LWO split that most of us would've expected a match announcement or some way to conclude this storyline by now.
Similarly, Lashley and The Street Profits have been at odds with Karrion Kross and The Authors of Pain for far too long with no discernible destination.
Nevertheless, WWE will reportedly stick to the seven-match format it has utilized previously for each night. According to WrestleVotes, "The indication from sources suggests we'll see up to four more WrestleMania matches announced for the event."
This could be where some of the most notable stars without a path to Lincoln Financial Field could land. These are our predictions for the last few spots on the card for this 40th-anniversary edition of The Showcase of the Immortals.
Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL
It's still unclear how Cargill, Belair and Naomi will factor into this year's show, but a trios match with Damage CTL could be the endgame.
On the March 1 episode of SmackDown, former All Elite Wrestling star Cargill crossed paths with Iyo Sky, Dakota Kai and The Kabuki Warriors. This seemed to set up a confrontation, but the 31-year-old hasn't been seen since.
Meanwhile, Naomi expressed sympathy for Bayley and ultimately came to her aid following the main event two weeks later.
Although the crowd in Memphis expected The EST of WWE to help them, she still harbors resentment toward The Role Model and the group she has feuded with since their debut at SummerSlam in 2022.
So, it's a safe bet that Belair could eventually come around, and the three will take on Damage CTRL at WrestleMania 40. However, that depends on Asuka's status after she seemingly sustained a knee injury last week.
It's disappointing that WWE's third cover star for 2K24 may not have a single match this year, but this is probably the most likely outcome.
Andrade vs. Dominik Mysterio
Ever since Andrade returned to Raw, he has interacted with Dominik Mysterio backstage.
Curiously, neither has an opponent for The Grandest Stage of Them All, and one would have to imagine this leading somewhere. After all, Dom is currently the only core member of The Judgment Day who doesn't have a match scheduled yet, and the returning star is a solid option.
WWE has appeared to tease that he could join the group, but Mysterio has also shown subtle signs that he doesn't trust him. If the company wants Andrade to receive a warm welcome back to the site of his acclaimed match with Johnny Gargano, it makes sense for him to face one of the most hated superstars on the roster.
The Philadelphia crowd will undoubtedly jeer Dirty Dom and embrace the Mexican in his first match on the main card for the event.
Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar
Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar is tentatively scheduled for this week's SmackDown, but this matchup could also take place on a bigger stage.
The two have been at odds since the second-generation star betrayed his mentor and reformed Legado del Fantasma. Unfortunately, the world-renowned luchador suffered a knee injury, which kept him out of action for three months and delayed their feud.
Mysterio returned on March 1 to help Carlito win his Street Fight against Escobar, reigniting their tension ahead of WrestleMania 40. Now that the event is so close, WWE should hold off and save it for two weeks.
This story has been brewing since the two Superstars presented each other with masks last February. It belongs on the card for The Show of Shows, but LWO vs. Legado del Fantasma could also occur at the event.
The Pride vs. The Final Testament
Lastly, The Pride could settle their heated rivalry with The Final Testament at Lincoln Financial Field.
Lashley didn't have a match last year because plans for a showdown with Bray Wyatt fell through. Instead, the former WWE champion entered and won the 2023 André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the WrestleMania edition of SmackDown.
It would be a shame to see The All Mighty miss The Show of Shows again, especially when he has a ready-made feud with Karrion Kross. The mysterious foe and his newfound stable attacked him at New Year's Revolution and eliminated him in the men's Royal Rumble match.
In two weeks, Lashley and The Street Profits will seek revenge against Kross and The Authors of Pain. This strong matchup is worthy of a spot at the two-night event, and all six men belong among the Superstars set to compete.
