WWE NXT Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction and Highlights After Roadblock
Following an action-packed Roadblock, the March 12 edition of WWE NXT focused on the aftermath and the further build to Stand & Deliver on April 6.
Brooks Jensen competed in the biggest match of his career, challenging North American champion Oba Femi. Was he ready to face one of the most dominant men on the gold brand?
Ridge Holland hoped to get revenge against Shawn Spears, who has continued to taunt and attack him week after week. Would Spears be ready for the backlash?
The tag team tournament to crown the next challengers for Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin officially started. Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro would face Bronco Nima and Lucien Price.
Roxanne Perez addressed her violent attack on Lyra Valkyria. Arianna Grace hoped to make Gigi Dolin into a "proper woman" by her standards, but she first had to defeat her one-on-one.
Mr. Stone looked for revenge against Lexis King on his own, and fans were looking to hear from Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes after Trick's surprise return.
This was a buildup episode that would show what NXT has in store for WrestleMania season.
Triple Threat Qualifier: LWO vs. OTM
1 of 9Despite taking multiple shortcuts, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price could not put this match away.
And Joaquin Wilde hit an assisted springboard 450 splash on Nima for the win.
LWO and OTM don't have obvious chemistry in the ring, but Wilde and Cruz Del Toro worked hard to make this a solid opener.
It was the right move to give them the win. While the trio is immensely talented, the tag team of LWO could barely buy a victory in the last year.
LWO is unlikely to be the team to earn the shot at Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson seem to have the inside track.
However, a win could still help the team stay relevant while SmackDown focuses heavily on everyone involved in LWO vs. Legado del Fantasma except Wilde and Del Toro.
Result
LWO def. OTM by pinfall to qualify for the No. 1 Contender Triple Threat.
Grade
B
Notable Moments
- OTM attacked LWO during their entrance to set up an advantage.
- Scrypts attacked the faces multiple times behind the referee's back.
- Breakker and Corbin taunted LWO from the stage after the finish.
Roxanne Perez Demands the NXT Women's Championship
2 of 9Roxanne Perez explained that she attacked Lyra Valkyria because the champion ignored her after she was screwed out of her title shot.
The Prodigy demanded Ava award her the NXT Women's Championship. Before the general manager could explain the plan for the title, Tatum Paxley jumped out of the crowd. Officials had to restrain her.
This was a weirdly paced segment despite a strong promo from Perez. She has always been held back because of her mic skills, but she sounds confident and sincere in her heel work.
However, this could have been sped up a bit, especially given how rushed the ending felt. NXT is likely delaying a formal announcement for Stand & Deliver until next week.
In the meantime, Perez vs. Paxley could be a fun contest, especially if the two lean into the hatred between them.
Grade
C+
Notable Moments
- The crowd started booing and began to slowly support Perez over her justified heel promo.
- Ilja Dragunov found Tony D'Angelo at his restaurant to warn him that he would never lose his NXT Championship. The Family dragged The Mad Dragon into a trunk.
- The Don took Dragunov to a bridge, showing the power he has over the champion, and left him to walk home.
- Katrina Petrovic and Lola Vice nearly started fighting in the locker room. Brinley Reece wished Sol Ruca luck for their match next week.
- Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, as well as Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, cut promos on one another. The Wolf Dogs hyped up Hank and Tank.
Lexis King vs. Mr. Stone
3 of 9Mr. Stone threw his jacket at Lexis King before attacking him at the bell, but that was the only time Von Wagner's manager had an edge in this fight.
King defeated Stone with the Coronation.
Afterward, Wagner ran out to carry Stone away before King could hurt him anymore.
This was the expected squash match. Stone should not be a serious threat to King at this stage of his career. He bumped clean for the heel and made him look good.
The goal seems to be a rematch with Wagner, though the big man should not lose momentum by going 50-50 with King. This should be a chance to get Wagner back in the W column.
Result
King def. Stone by pinfall.
Grade
C
Notable Moments
- Booker T and Vic Joseph spent this entire match arguing over whether King was justified in his actions.
North American Championship: Oba Femi (c) vs. Brooks Jensen
4 of 9Brooks Jensen held on in a physical battle that was wearing him down.
Josh Briggs tried to hype up his friend at ringside, but that only seemed to motivate a cocky Oba Femi, who hit him with a pair of powerbombs to seal it.
This was a solid extended squash. Jensen does not quite have the fiery babyface act down, so it was hard to get invested in his short-lived comebacks. But Femi's pure power is constantly impressive.
This was a rare time on NXT television when the match should have been shorter than it was.
Jensen never had a chance, but he has set up a more likely potential champion for Stand & Deliver. Femi vs. Briggs is a big-time power matchup that could steal the show.
However, Dijak has also teased challenging Femi, so the plan could also be a Triple Threat. Either way, the contest is certain to be hard-hitting and memorable.
Result
Femi def. Jensen by pinfall to retain the North American Championship.
Grade
C+
Notable Moments
- Earlier in the day, Jensen and Femi got into it in the parking lot until Briggs protected Jensen.
- Before the match, Dijak introduced himself to Femi.
- Briggs watched this match backstage until he decided to head out to ringside.
- After a near-fall off a spinning powerslam, Jensen was out of gas. Femi threw around his opponent to taunt Briggs.
Gigi Dolin vs. Arianna Grace
5 of 9Arianna Grace used multiple tricks throughout this match.
After distracting the referee with her tiara, she hit Gigi Dolin with a low blow. Dolin responded with one of her own, but the referee caught it and disqualified Dolin.
Grace and Dolin have more chemistry than one would have expected going in. This was a solid back-and-forth clash that was over too quickly to really shine.
The non-finish felt appropriate as Grace continues to weasel her way to victory against more capable opponents. Dolin is forced to do Grace's bidding without truly having lost.
This sets up a fun dynamic for a few weeks that might get Dolin back on track in NXT while also showing Grace's comedic timing all the more.
Result
Grace def. Dolin by disqualification; Dolin must learn from Grace how to be a "proper lady."
Grade
B-
Notable Moments
- Grace repeatedly begged off in the corner after Dolin went near her face with a strike.
Kiana James and Izzi Dame vs. Thea Hail and Fallon Henley
6 of 9Kelani Jordan was found laid out right before the match.
Fallon Henley arrived to help Thea Hail. However, poorly timed help from Jacy Jayne cost the faces the match, setting up Hail to take the Deal Breaker for the loss.
Afterward, Hail declared "the old Thea" was back and done with Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx's drama.
This was a solid tag team match, showcasing the growing depth of NXT's women's tag team division while also developing multiple stories.
Henley and Hail work well together, and the latter especially stood out in her varied hot tag sequence. James and Dame have found their tag team chemistry with unique double-team offense.
Jordan has even more of a bone to pick with both heels. Henley backed up Hail and encouraged her to finally break away with Jayne.
This was one of NXT's tightest-booked segments in a while, especially for the women.
Result
James and Dame def. Hail and Henley by pinfall.
Grade
B+
Notable Moments
- Earlier in the day, Hail and Jordan agreed to tag.
- Jayne and Nyx arrived late, which motivated Hail for a hot tag,
- With the way NXT has been establishing women's tag teams recently, it may be time to do the women's Dusty Classic again.
- Riley Osborne celebrated Hail finding herself again. No Quarter Catch Crew taunted Osborne until Nathan Frazer and Axiom gave him some backup.
Shawn Spears vs. Ridge Holland
7 of 9Shawn Spears taunted Ridge Holland from the opening bell, demanding he let out his anger.
When he brought up Holland's wife, it finally unleashed that anger. The big man chokeslammed him through the announce table.
He grabbed Spears' steel chair, but the referee took it away. The heel took advantage and hit a C4 on that seat for the win.
This was a melodramatic battle that tried a little too hard to sell its story, but both veterans showed their talent with smooth, consistent action throughout.
Spears especially brings an in-ring consistency that can benefit much of the NXT roster. He will be a major aid to the younger stars once he has moved past this feud.
The ending was bad as Vic Joseph tried to sell the chair impact as inadvertent, which was why the referee did not call for a disqualification. At best, it continued to make Holland look dumb.
Result
Spears def. Holland by pinfall.
Grade
B-
Notable Moments
- NXT found Holland backstage wishing his little girl a good night before his match.
- Holland hesitated before he could send Spears into the steel post. Spears took advantage and sent Holland into the post again. He taunted Holland afterward, saying "you should have done it."
- Spears trapped Holland in the ropes and then told him "he let everyone down" including "his wife."
Meta-Four Interrupts Trick Williams' Challenge to Carmelo Hayes
8 of 9Trick Williams told Carmelo Hayes that he was not on Trick's level after what he did.
He challenged Melo to a match only to be interrupted by Meta-Four, who mocked him.
Noam Dar wanted to get his momentum back by taking Trick's hype. He challenged him to a match next week.
A fight broke out that surprisingly ended with Trick and Lash Legend lip-locked.
This was a bizarre end to the show despite Trick's best efforts. His passionate promo on Melo was the highlight of the night, but Meta-Four's involvement did not feel worthy of closing out the show.
This felt more like an opening segment setting up the main event. Dar just doesn't have the credibility to come off as a serious threat to Trick right now.
The Trick and Legend connection has serious potential if NXT does go down that route, though.
Grade
B-
Notable Moments
- Trick sold how much Melo's betrayal hurt him.
- Trick said that even John Cena told him to watch out for Melo.
Overall Show
9 of 9NXT delivered a night of fine action and passionate yet awkwardly paced promos. All in all, this was a show that could have been much better from a production standpoint.
Trick WIlliams and Roxanne Perez cut career-defining promos, but one went too short and the other too long before awkward interruptions.
Shawn Spears vs. Ridge Holland and LWO vs. OTM were a pair of fine matches but hardly up to the billing of opener and closer for NXT.
The best part of the night was a mix of solid wrestling and storytelling as Thea Hail found her spark again while tagging with Fallon Henley. Hopefully, this will put her back in the title picture alongside Henley.
NXT needs to step up on this road to Stand & Deliver. There is no more time for filler episodes in setting up the biggest show of the gold brand's year.
