NBA Rumors: Warriors' Andrew Wiggins Doesn't Have Trade Value Now, Says Anonymous GM
Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins reportedly doesn't have any trade value right now, per an anonymous NBA general manager.
ESPN and Andscape reporter Marc J. Spears reported that news on NBA Today (h/t Jackson Stone of ClutchPoints).
"Wiggins, I was told by a GM, there's not a value for Wiggins right now," Spears said.
"Although you could package him and [Jonathan Kuminga] together, you could package Kuminga and [Chris Paul] to make it happen, but the Warriors desperately need to make a trade."
Wiggins has struggled in his 10th NBA season, averaging 11.9 points on 42.5 percent shooting (29.4 percent from three-point range). He's playing on a four-year, $109 million extension that has him under contract through at least 2026. Wiggins also has a 2026-27 player option.
The 28-year-old Wiggins is obviously capable of far better play. He was an All-Star starter just two years ago, when he helped guide the Warriors to an NBA championship. Wiggins enjoyed an excellent NBA Finals performance (18.3 PPG, 8.8 RPG) against the Boston Celtics as well.
Wiggins had an injury-shortened 2022-23 campaign, playing just 37 regular-season games, but he still fared well (17.1 PPG, 47.3 percent shooting from the field).
However, this season has arguably been the worst of Wiggins' 10 seasons. Given his play and contract, it's understandable why he doesn't have any trade value right now.
It also makes sense why the Warriors would want to trade him. Simply put, the current iteration of this Warriors team may not even be good enough to make the play-in tournament. Right now, Golden State sits 18-20 and 12th in the Western Conference.
A 5-1 start has gone by the wayside as the team struggles mightily on the defensive end (No. 24 in rating). The NBA has reinstated Draymond Green after a 12-game suspension, but now Chris Paul is lost with a fractured left hand.
Ultimately, the Warriors should look to do something before the Feb. 8 trade deadline, but it appears they would have trouble looking to move Wiggins at the moment.
