Giants Rumors: Brian Daboll's 'Brutal' Gameday Demeanor Ripped After Martindale Spat
Some within the New York Giants organization, including former defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, have reportedly taken issue with head coach Brian Daboll's sideline outbursts over the past two seasons.
According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, one team source commented on Daboll's demeanor during games, saying: "On gameday, he's a madman. It's just brutal."
Another team source noted: "It's to the point where you've got to take your headsets off or take one ear off. He's just constantly screaming. It's like, 'Jeez, I can't even think.'"

One staff member who reportedly stood up to Daboll was Martindale, who served as the Giants' defensive coordinator the past two seasons. Per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Martindale "cursed out" Daboll at a team meeting Monday when he learned that two of his top defensive assistants were being fired.
That led to the Giants and Martindale mutually agreeing to part ways this week.
While Daboll's antics have apparently rubbed some coaches the wrong way, his players reportedly view him favorably.
Per Duggan, the Giants players look at Daboll as a "players' coach," and one veteran player said Daboll's blowups are "mostly an accepted part" of playing under him even if they "can be counterproductive in situations when emotions are already running high."
The 48-year-old Daboll was a well-traveled coach before the Giants hired him to be their head man prior to the 2022 season.
Daboll has served in many different roles at the NFL and collegiate levels, including stints with the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2006 and again from 2013 to 2016 as a defensive assistant, a wide receivers coach and a tight ends coach.
Some of his more significant roles included Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2010, Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator in 2011, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator in 2012 and University of Alabama offensive coordinator in 2017.
Daboll's last job before getting hired by New York was as the OC for the Buffalo Bills from 2018 to 2021.
Sean McDermott brought in Daboll before his second season as the Bills' head coach, and Daboll played a significant role in the development of superstar quarterback Josh Allen, who was a rookie in 2018.
Under Daboll's guidance, Allen went from a raw player with elite tools to one of the consistently best quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
Daboll's work with Allen likely played a big role in the Giants hiring him, as did the fact that the Giants may have wanted a package deal since they hired former Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen as their GM as well.
Hiring Daboll paid immediate dividends, as the Giants went 9-7-1 and made the playoffs in 2022 after failing to make the postseason in each of the previous five campaigns.
However, the G-Men took a significant step back this season, going just 6-11 and missing the playoffs.
It appears as though Daboll's job is safe heading into the 2024 season, but if the Giants are unable to bounce back and have a season closer to what they produced in 2022, it is fair to wonder of Daboll's bedside manner or lack thereof could come back to haunt him.
