Boomer Esiason Rips Mark Sanchez, Talks of Jets' Pursuit of Peyton Manning
The New York Jets disappointed everyone in 2011.
An 8-8, non-playoff season will do that, especially on the heels of back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances.
Like the city-sharing baseball team with a rhyming name, the Jets have provided flash in recent years but have nothing to show for it.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Ironically enough, it is a Mets-loving, former Jets quarterback who is the latest to rip into Gang Green for their embarrassing season.
Boomer Esiason, a former NFL MVP with the Cincinnati Bengals and former Jets signal-caller turned radio host and football analyst for CBS, had a lot to say on the present and future of the Jets' quarterback situation.
He stopped by to talk sports with the Dennis & Callahan show on WEEI 93.7 FM/850 AM and said:
"And then this morning in the paper, Jets fans don't want Mark Sanchez back. But this is the world of the Jets. It stays together for a little bit, and then all of a sudden it spirals out of control. And then they have a head coach that kind of exacerbates all of it.
"
And in regards to the Jets' interest in Peyton Manning he adds:
"Everywhere you look, that's what they're saying. But first of all, we don't even know if Peyton's able to play. If Peyton is able to play and the new general manager and whoever they hire to run that team out there decides to go without Peyton Manning, then I'm sure that the Jets will be sniffing around.
Because that's what the Jets do. They're trying to find their Tom Brady. They're trying to find their Aaron Rodgers. And I don't think in their mind they think that they feel like they've found the kid.
If you watched Mark Sanchez the last month of the season, he was like a chihuahua standing on Madison Avenue and 36th Street entering the Midtown Tunnel, eyes bigger than you-know-what, and just so shaky.
"
This isn't the first time Mark Sanchez's mental toughness has been called into question, nor is it the first time we've heard calls for the Jets to replace him.
However, the last time they tried to go with an aging superstar they were burned by the Brett Favre nonsense, which, ironically enough, put them in a position to go after Mark Sanchez in the first place.
The talk of Peyton in green is, obviously, premature. For starters, the Jets' season just ended, and naturally there is bitterness and sick feelings flying around the tri-state area because of it.
Secondly, as Boomer rightly said, the Jets are always sniffing around. But where he's wrong is that it isn't just Sanchez's play that is causing this. It isn't just that Sanchez hasn't progressed the way they'd hoped the No. 5 pick in the draft would.
No, the Jets are sniffing around because their patience runs thin and they are prone to impulsive moves. They showed it with the signing of Favre, the drafting of Sanchez, the re-signing of Santonio Holmes to a multi-year deal, and so on and so forth.
As for Boomer, he hasn't really said anything that cannot be defended. Sanchez hasn't played well, Rex Ryan does exacerbate things and the Jets are probably interested in Peyton, because he's freaking Peyton.
Will it work out for them? No, probably not.
Will we be talking about this again in one year's team? Your damn right we well.
And will this all eventually come crashing down on a coach who, quite frankly, barks more than he bites?
We'll find out soon enough.
