Mavericks Rumors: Josh Green Agrees to 3-Year, $41M Contract Extension
The Dallas Mavericks reportedly have locked up one of their rising young players to a long-term deal.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, 2020 first-round pick Josh Green agreed to a three-year, $41 million contract extension with the Mavs on Monday.
The full contract structure was provided by ESPN's Bobby Marks:
In his third NBA season, Green recorded career highs of 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, 53.7 percent shooting from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point range. He also started a career-high 21 games across his 60 appearances in 2022-23. He had a 20-game absence early in the season due to an elbow injury.
Green, who will turn 23 next month, is expected to see a bigger role this season as a 3-and-D wing alongside volume scorers Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. In Dallas' final preseason game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday, he scored a game-high 22 points to lead the team to a 114-104 win.
Green also played for Australia during the FIBA World Cup this summer and averaged 8.2 points and 1.6 steals.
The Mavs are looking to bounce back from a 38-44 finish to the 2022-23 season. The team entered the year with lofty expectations after reaching the Western Conference Finals in the previous season, but the team struggled after the Irving trade.
Dallas is hoping a full training camp with Irving plus a commitment to younger players like Green will improve its chances of competing for a title this year. The Mavs will open the 2023-24 campaign on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
