Warriors' Draymond Green Out for Opener vs. Kevin Durant, Suns with Ankle Injury
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green will not play in Tuesday's season opener against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns due to a sprained ankle, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Green's status for the start of the regular season was up in the air due to the sprained ankle he suffered during a pickup game at Chase Center before training camp opened.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters on Oct. 17 that Green wouldn't suit up for the final two preseason games, but he was vague about the game against the Suns.
"I just talked to him and he felt good in his workout today," Kerr said. "He's moving around, he's doing some drill work on the court and by the end of the week hopefully he is playing some 3-on-3. We'll reevaluate at that point."
Green told reporters during Warriors' media day on Oct. 2 that he felt "good" and is a "pretty fast healer." The four-time All-Star was mostly injury-free last season with 73 starts during the regular season, his most since the 2016-17 campaign.
In the three seasons before 2022-23, Green missed a total of 67 games. He averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game last season.
