NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard Must Work His Magic to Flee Orlando
This Dwight Howard trade saga is never going to end. No matter how much you want it to stop, it continues to gain speed and is only going to get worse from here on out.
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, no one is really sure when the Orlando Magic will part ways with Dwight Howard, but they are still hearing offers.
What's most important about that story, though, is that the rumors continue to fly and situations continue to develop.
And you just have to believe Howard is hearing every bit of information.
If I'm him (and I wish I was), I'm doing absolutely anything I can to force my way out of Orlando right now. It may not be the best solution, or the most grown-up fix to a problem, but at some point you just have to say, 'this is ridiculous. I would actually like to play some games without everyone, everywhere asking me about trade rumors.'
Howard is clearly playing through all the distractions, as he's averaging 19 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.8 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
Those are absolutely gaudy numbers and he has the Magic at 4-2. All is good in Orlando, right?
Wrong.
Like I said, these talks and rumors are never going to end. As much as you want them to end, Howard wants them to end more. As long as he is still a Magic player (Magician?), he'll be the center of endless, mostly meaningless talk.
I (sadly) can't as easily go into Dwight Howard's head as John Cusack could go into John Malkovich's, but he has to be annoyed at this point.
He has to be annoyed with the media asking him the same questions after every game.
He has to be annoyed with hearing how his own team is constantly shopping him, although that has died down a little bit as of late.
He has to be annoyed with everything.
One way to solve that would be to find a way onto a new team. All the attention would still be on Howard, but he would suddenly be getting Chris Paul-type of attention.
And that's the type of attention a guy like Dwight Howard thrives on.
Granted, DH12 can't necessarily make the packages that other teams are offering any more enticing. But if he really wants out, he can talk to Orlando management and he can nudge them in the right direction.
For now, all is fine and dandy in Orlando. But this whole drama is like a bus with a bomb on it. A bomb set to explode if that bus goes below 50 mph (kind of). It can't stop. It won't stop.
It's just going to keep getting worse as time goes on.
If Dwight Howard is smart, he'll end this whole thing as soon as he can.
