College Football Recruiting 2012: Predicting the Biggest Commitments in January
Now, I know I've already listed the top commitments that are taking place at either the Under Armour game on Thursday or the US Army game on Saturday.
Yes, those commitments technically are taking place in January, however, for this read, I'm going to give you several big commitments that won't happen at either game, but still should go down before we start thinking about Valentine's Day.
Here we go.
Yuri Wright, CB
1 of 4Many college coaches are drooling at the thought of Wright covering WRs for their program. He's 6'2", 180 pounds and a remarkable athlete. Wright has a chance to develop into a similar version of how Nnamdi Asomougha plays CB on such a tall and long frame.
With his size, speed, agility and coverage skills, Wright could be one of the best CBs to come out of this class and thus be a headliner in a few years.
He's down to Colorado, Rutgers, Georgia, Notre Dame and Michigan. A decision is expected later this month and I think Notre Dame wins out.
Zach Banner, OT
2 of 4Banner is a 6'9", 300-pounder with good athleticism. I think he's best suited for right tackle, and once he gets his big paws on a rusher, that usually ends that account for that down.
Banner has been pretty open throughout the process, but has narrowed it down to a final five. In-state Washington, USC, Oklahoma, Michigan and Notre Dame are who he's focused on.
USC will host Banner in the coming weeks and a decision should come shortly after that. This one is too close to call, but I think he stays home for U-Dub.
Jordan Jenkins, DE
3 of 4Jenkins has been close to a decision for the past few months, but has yet to pull the trigger. He and his family have been awfully thorough from the jump of the process, and he will make one of the most well-informed decisions of any prospect in this year's class.
At 6'3", 250-pounds, Jenkins is an athletic specimen nicknamed "The Freak". He can play DE in a 40 front or stand up in a 3-4 defense.
Alabama is my prediction: They will beat out Florida and Georgia will be third.
Arik Armstead, DE/OT
4 of 4The Big trench player from NorCal is eligible to graduate early and enroll at a college this month, and many feel that is what he will indeed do. Armstead—6'8"and 280-pounds—was once a longtime USC pledge, but the Trojans are out.
Texas, Oregon, Auburn and Notre Dame are all thick in the mix and playing basketball is a prime goal for Armstead.
With all that said, I think he ends up at Cal before the month ends.
