2012 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers and Teams That Need Justin Blackmon

Austin GreenJan 2, 2012

As the best wide receiver in the 2012 draft class, Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon will be a hot commodity this spring.

The 6'1", 215-pound junior is unquestionably the top receiver available. He finished the regular season in the top 10 in receptions (113), receiving yards (1,336) and touchdown catches (15).

He also joined Michael Crabtree as the only players to win two Fred Biletnikoff Awards, the honor given out to the nation's best receiver.

Blackmon doesn't have blazing speed, but he uses his massive hands and excellent body control to snatch anything and everything thrown his way.

With the insane passing numbers put up in 2011, the NFL is undoubtedly a quarterback's league. However, a quarterback is only as good as the guys he's throwing to.

That's why the following teams would be smart to beef up their receiving corps by drafting Blackmon.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have plenty of issues, but one of their most glaring is their lack of weapons for Blaine Gabbert.

This season, nobody on their roster had more than 460 receiving yards and their top three leaders in receptions included a tight end and a running back.

Jacksonville desperately needs an elite receiver to pair with Gabbert. With the seventh pick in the draft, they're in prime position to select Blackmon.

Cam Newton could use a few more toys to play with, and it's scary to think what he could accomplish with Blackmon at his disposal.

In his rookie season, Newton threw for 4,051 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also single-handedly revived the career of the OG Steve Smith.

If the Panthers upgrade their other receiver spot, they will have one of the best offenses in the NFL next season.

They will have either the eighth or ninth pick, depending on the result of a coin flip. Unfortunately, Blackmon probably won't be on the board by then.

If Seattle wants to compete with San Francisco in the NFC West, they'll need to upgrade at receiver.

The Sidney Rice signing was a bust, Golden Tate has been unproductive and undrafted Doug Baldwin isn't talented enough to be a No. 1 receiver.

Like Carolina, the Seahawks will have their draft position determined by a coin flip. They will receive either the 11th or 12th pick.

Either way, they'll have to trade up if they want Blackmon.
