Bones Hyland Reportedly Traded to Clippers from Nuggets amid Russell Westbrook Rumors
The Los Angeles Clippers have acquired guard Bones Hyland in a trade with the Denver Nuggets, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Nuggets will receive second-round draft picks in 2024 and 2025, per Wojnarowski.
Hyland has averaged 12.1 points and 3.0 assists per game in 42 appearances for Denver this year, almost exclusively off the bench.
Despite his production for the first-place team in the West, Hyland has fallen out of the rotation and has not appeared in the Nuggets' last four games. Veteran guard Ish Smith and rookie Christian Braun have seen more playing time and should remain key parts of Denver's rotation.
The Clippers benefit by adding a player who can provide reliable scoring depth behind Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Los Angeles has been on the lookout for point guard help and was involved in the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes before the Brooklyn Nets dealt him to the Dallas Mavericks. The Clippers also acquired combo guard Eric Gordon on Thursday in a three-way deal with the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies, per Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.
Hyland doesn't have the same resume, but he can provide firepower off the bench with at least 20 points in eight games this year. His 37.8 percent three-point shooting should also help spread the floor for the team's primary scorers.
It could help the Clippers stay competitive in the loaded Western Conference. The 22-year-old is also under team control through 2025.
