NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks, Nets Not Actively Pursuing Raptors' O.G. Anunoby
The Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks are not actively pursuing Toronto Raptors forward O.G. Anunoby at this time, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported on SNY's The Putback with Ian Begley (1:25 mark):
Fischer added that the Raptors' requested return for the 24-year-old is "very, very high."
Anunoby is averaging 16.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game in his sixth NBA season, all with the Raptors.
The Knicks were reportedly willing to part with "multiple first-round picks" for Anunoby, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
At least one team offered three first-round picks for Anunoby, per Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star. Doug Smith of the Toronto Star said that interested teams would need to deal "at least two promising players on team-friendly deals and a pick to pry him away."
Naturally, the requested trade packages should be high for a talented two-way player like Anunoby. The question, though, is whether Toronto wants to shoot for the playoffs or rebuild with the trade deadline Thursday.
This hasn't been a good year for Toronto, which has a more talented team on paper than its 25-30 record shows. The good news is that the Raps are tied with the Indiana Pacers for the final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference, so they're certainly not out of playoff contention.
Fischer previously reported that the Raptors would wait until the "final hours" to decide if they would be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.
A pair of road wins against the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies in recent days puts Toronto on the upward trajectory, at least, and the Raps have one more game (Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs at home) before the deadline.
