Gunther Wants Brock Lesnar; WWE Rumors on Dragon Lee's Debut; WWE 2K23 New Feature
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from WWE and AEW.
GUNTHER wants Brock Lesnar
When filling out dream WrestleMania cards earlier this year, Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther was a resoundingly popular pick. Lesnar seemingly didn't have anything to do, and Gunther rampaged through the SmackDown roster with ease during his Intercontinental championship reign.
Alas, it does not appear they'll be finding themselves going one-on-one. The pair had a fun back-and-forth at last month's Royal Rumble, but Bobby Lashley eliminating Lesnar likely sets up another match between the two behemoths at wrestling's biggest event.
That said, Gunther is all in on a potential match with the Beast Incarnate.
"Brock is a one-in-a-million guy, one in ten million," Gunther said on the Rob Brown Show. "I always liked those guys that have stood out from the pack. I stopped watching wrestling for a while when I was a teenager and then I got back into it again when I started training. There was a time when Brock was young and he was wrestling Eddie [Guerrero] and Big Show and Kurt Angle, and the guy was fantastic. I always loved his matches and was very impressed with that and also with the recent years in WWE. I always thought it would be a thing for wrestling and my style, that's my end boss. I've been portrayed as the end boss in wrestling for a lot of guys, but I think Brock could be my end boss. I really hope the match goes down at some point."
Gunther is already one of the longest-reigning Intercontinental champions in history and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him challenge the Honky Tonk Man's 454-day record reign at this point.
If WWE wants to put Gunther's reign into question, booking him against Lesnar at SummerSlam could build a ton of hype.
Dragon Lee Dealing With Visa Issues
WWE's latest major signing from the lucha libre ranks has been conspicuously absent since his signing with the company at the end of last year.
While many expected him to debut at NXT's Vengeance Day event over the weekend, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio said visa issues are causing a delay in his arrival.
"I'm sure they wanted to introduce Dragon Lee, but he's having visa issues so he's not there yet," Meltzer said.
It's unclear when those issues will be addressed, but expect Dragon Lee to make his debut soon after he's able to enter the United States. The 27-year-old is arguably the most promising lucha star yet to make a real impact stateside. He briefly appeared in the AEW Trios Tournament last year but was not signed after the appearance, paving the way for WWE to step in.
Massive Expansion of Customization Coming to WWE 2K23 Universe Mode
While WWE 2K22 was a massive upgrade over its predecessor, most fans still found Universe Mode lacking.
That won't be the case in 2K23, according to developers. Associate Gameplay Producer Bryan Williams spoke to Deven McClure of Screen Rant and said full storyline customization is coming to Universe Mode this year.
"The level of control that the players will have in Universe this year is something that I don't think they are expecting," Williams said. "I mean, Universe already is about control and being able to manipulate everything, but this new layer of being able to actually now set and direct the certain actions and events to happen. I think for me, it's a game changer for the mode, and I'm excited for the fans of this mode to get their hands on it because I think that one of those content creators who likes to stream the game, they are going to have a field day with this."
WWE 2K23 is set for a March 17 release date.
