Top 5 WWE Video Promos of 2011
WWE had many memorable moments throughout the past 12 months. Some backstage. Some in the middle of the ring. However, some of WWE's best moments are created in video packages.
Who can forget all the classic WrestleMania videos? Or even the promos hyping up Rock vs. Stone Cold many years ago? Today, I am going to focus on five great promos that WWE produced in 2011.
Note: I will not be including the "It Begins" videos, as the reveal will take place in 2012. A few notable mentions are Edge's retirement video, Christian vs. Orton at Summerslam, WWE's video for The Rock at Survivor Series, Zack Ryder's video highlighting his TLC win and the Tribute to the Troops closing video package.
5. Undertaker vs. Triple H
1 of 5Goosebumps.
That is the best way to describe the video packages building up this classic match. Triple H vs. Undertaker was a major selling point for WWE in 2011. Forget Sheamus. Forget Wade Barrett.
This was about two guys returning to prove who is the better man. WWE produced many videos hyping up these two, but the one I posted was by far the best.
It really put over "The Streak," and it really made you think Triple H was the man to end it. While some took the bait, most knew Taker was going to win in the end. The only problem was, after seeing each promo, you didn't care.
It did not matter if you never thought The Game had a chance. You had to see this match. You had to order Wrestle Mania.
4. Shawn Michaels Inducted
2 of 5I still laugh at the notion that Atlanta would be a "WCW-themed" Hall of Fame for WWE this year.
Again, I try to stick to reality. Shawn Michaels was going in as the headliner. There was never any other choice in my mind.
As usual, WWE made him look like a million bucks when his induction was announced. The video package WWE aired on Raw just about sold out the WWE Hall of Fame Arena in one day. It was that good. Very well done.
3. CM Punk vs. John Cena
3 of 5This was great.
Again, how could you watch this promo and not want to see the PPV event? This was the very definition of "must see" in this business.
CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. In Chicago. At WWE Money in the Bank. On Punk's final night in the company? With Cena being fired if he lost?
Wow, my money was already spent days before this event. I had to pay to see this, no matter what it took. WWE produced yet another excellent video getting fans excited for an epic match, and it worked.
2. Jerry Lawler Wins!
4 of 5Wow, did I love seeing Jerry Lawler return to the ring earlier this year?
I did not want to see him wrestle every week. I did not care to see him win a title. I really did not care to see his "run" last too long, but I certainly got caught up in his big return to glory.
His feud with Michael Cole was just amazing leading up to WrestleMania. After that? No so much.
This particular video showcased the infamous "Raw Rumble," where seven men were in an over-the-top battle royal to see who would face The Miz at Elimination Chamber for the WWE title.
R-Truth had no shot at winning. Cena was too early to face Miz. Morrison was just there for his usual spots. Punk never had a chance. Sheamus was not the right fit, and Orton was just finished with Miz.
That left Jerry Lawler.
Not only did he pull off the upset, you had Cole on commentary just going off on him and the entire situation. Classic story. Loved the video package.
1. Hate Me Now
5 of 5I loved WrestleMania 27! It was such a spectacular event that featured many memorable moments. Undertaker vs, Triple H was excellent. Punk vs. Orton was great. Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio was good. Edge vs. Del Rio was a cool opener, and The Rock made a nice host.
The highlight of the show? This video package that aired right before the main event! Cena also got his own video, but this was so much better. It made The Miz look like a legitimate performer, and it made all of his critics, haters and doubters look foolish.
Anybody that disliked his work for years had to sit and watch WrestleMania, as he was in the main event of the evening. Not them. He was! The Miz had made it, and WWE was showing it off to the world.
As the title said, "Hate me now!"
