Seahawks vs. Cardinals: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More

Tim DanielsDec 28, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks (7-8) and Arizona Cardinals (7-8) were both eliminated from playoff contention with losses last week, which means they will be playing for pride in their Week 17 matchup. The Seahawks won the first meeting, 17-10.

Seattle has shown flashes of solid play throughout the season, including wins over the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, but hasn't been able to sustain that level for an extended period of time. That's mostly due to an inconsistent offense.

It's a similar story in Arizona. The Cardinals have been one of the NFL's hottest teams since early November, but their charge came too late to make the playoffs. Things would have likely been different had the trade for Kevin Kolb worked out as expected.

What's at Stake?

To put it simply, not much. Both teams will be disappointed that their playoff hopes were dashed and will be going through the motions one final time this season. Only depth players hoping to impress the coaches truly have something to play for on Sunday.

Seahawks Injury Report

LB Malcolm Smith (concussion), DT Clinton McDonald (concussion) and CB Kennard Cox (hamstring). Head coach Pete Carroll is hoping all three guys can play, according to John Boyle of the Everett Herald.

Cardinals Injury Report

DB Patrick Peterson (questionable, Achilles) and QB Kevin Kolb (doubtful, head). Both updates courtesy Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit 'Em, Sleeper

Start: RB Beanie Wells (ARZ)—Wells continues to be the workhorse of Arizona's offense despite some concern about his knee. He gets a favorable matchup against an average Seahawks run defense and should be able to put together another solid outing to finish the season.

Sit: QB John Skelton (ARZ)—Even though Skelton has scored in double digits for three straight weeks, he isn't reliable enough to risk your fantasy season on. Seattle ranks sixth against opposing fantasy quarterbacks, so look elsewhere if you're in need of a replacement QB.

Sleeper: WR Doug Baldwin (SEA)—There aren't a ton of fantasy-worthy options on these two teams, but Baldwin's two touchdowns over the past three weeks stand out. If Patrick Peterson is unable to play, Baldwin's value would make him a sneaky flex starter.

What They're Saying

Carroll is looking forward to next season after his team failed to qualify for the playoffs after making a big splash in last year's postseason:

Cardinals sack leader Calais Campbell expressed that it was a letdown to hear he didn't make the Pro Bowl:

Seahawks Player To Watch: S Earl Thomas

Thomas was selected with the 14th pick in last season's draft and has lived up to the hype. He's made 92 tackles and intercepted a pair of passes this season as his maturation continues to show. It won't be long before he's widely considered one of the league's best safeties.

Cardinals Player To Watch: WR Larry Fitzgerald

There might not be a better role model in the entire NFL than Fitzgerald. He carries himself in a professional manner off the field and is an elite wide receiver on it. The former Pittsburgh Panthers star has reeled in 71 passes for over 1,200 yards and eight TDs despite Arizona's QB woes.

Key Matchup: Seahawks LT Paul McQuistan vs. Cardinals ROLB Sam Acho

McQuistan has bounced around Seattle's offensive line all season to fill voids left by injury. He's risen to the occasion each time, including when he was asked to play the all-important left tackle spot. He'll have his hands full with Acho, a surprisingly productive rookie with six sacks so far.

On the Hot Seat: Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb

As mentioned above, it would be a surprise if Kolb starts Sunday's game, but he's still the player under the most pressure heading into the offseason. Arizona gave up a solid package with hopes of making him its franchise quarterback, and he didn't reach expectations in 2011 while struggling to stay healthy.
