Maxwell Is Eagles' Top CB Despite Failing to Live Up to Massive Contract
Maxwell suffered a bruised quad in the Eagles' 23-20 Week 4 loss to the Redskins, which compounded issues the high-priced corner experienced throughout the early stages of his tenure in midnight green.
Through his first four appearances, Maxwell was far and away the Eagles' least efficient player in coverage. According to Pro Football Focus, Philadelphia's $63 million man posted a pass coverage grade of minus-six. By comparison, the Eagles' second-lowest-rated player over that span was inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans at minus-2.9.
Maxwell has hardly been perfect, but his talent is undeniable. Rookie Eric Rowe and sixth-year journeyman E.J. Biggers are candidates to step in and assume his responsibilities on the outside.
