The 10 Dumbest Moments in MMA History

G DDec 27, 2011

We've all had our fair share of mess-ups over the course of our lives.

These instances are often referred to as "dumb moments."

In the world of sports, there are plenty of dumb moments that occur, especially in mixed martial arts.

As the sport has grown to be a global powerhouse, it's brought some of the most unforgettable moments but also moments we'd like to forget about.

Regardless, these moments have stuck with us and have played a part in MMA evolving into what it is today.

The following slides display the 10 dumbest moments in MMA history.

Nick Diaz Blows off Press Conferences

1 of 10

Leading up to the biggest bout of his mixed martial arts career against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137, Nick Diaz was nowhere to be found.

Diaz went missing, as he was supposed to be answering questions at a mandatory press conference in Las Vegas, Nev.

The same thing happened days later, as Diaz intentionally blew off a press conference in Canada promoting his championship bout.

Smooth, Nick.

David Gardner Waves to His Fans and Gets Submitted

2 of 10

David "Hello Japan" Gardner found himself in a desperate situation as Shinya Aoki captured his back in their match at DREAM 7 in Japan.

Instead of defending himself, Gardner waved hello to the Japan crowd.

Unfortunately for Gardner, he didn't get to see if the fans in attendance waved back, as he was submitted via rear-naked choke seconds later.

Goodbye, Japan.

Matt Wiman Eats It

3 of 10

Matt Wiman ain't scared.

Well, at least we thought he wasn't.

In his UFC 60 bout with Spencer Fisher, Wiman taunted his opponent with an "I'm not hurt" gesture in an attempt to classify himself as superman.

In a sudden turn of events, Wiman went from not being hurt to receiving a flying knee that would knock him senseless.

Wanderlei Silva Says How He Really Feels

4 of 10

It was UFC 66 when Wanderlei Silva entered the Octagon to share a piece of his mind with knockout artist Chuck Liddell.

To this very day, we're not entirely sure what was running through Silva's mind.

But, what came out of his mouth was something we'll never forget:

Who needs Chuck and Larry when we have Chuck and Wanderlei?

Frank Mir Says He Wants Brock Lesnar Dead

5 of 10

There have been a lot of things said over the years in and outside of the Octagon.

But few have come to challenge the words that came out of Frank Mir's mouth in regards to Brock Lesnar leading up to their highly anticipated bout.

Mir stated that he wanted to break Lesnar's neck.

Mir didn't stop there, as he went on to state that he wanted Lesnar to be the first fighter to die from Octagon-related injuries.

Dumb move, Frank.

Paul Daley Lands Big Blow

6 of 10

If you can't beat them, well, then beat them after the fight is over.

If you haven't caught on yet, this was the proverb fulfilled by heavy-hitting Paul Daley in his bout against Josh Koscheck at UFC 113.

Correction: after his bout.

In anger, Daley connected on the biggest blow of the night as he sought out revenge on Koscheck for dominating him for three consecutive rounds.

Kevin Randleman Knocks Himself Out

7 of 10

Kevin Randleman was set to take on Pedro Rizzo at UFC 24, as he was looking for his first successful title defense since being declared the heavyweight champion.

But Randleman never made it to Rizzo, as he was knocked out cold by a pile of pipes.

Randleman apparently slipped on the pipes and was unable to compete against Rizzo.

Stay away from them pipes, Kevin.

James Toney's MMA Career

8 of 10

James Toney's MMA career.

Funny or downright dumb?

Unfortunately for Toney, his career lasted a whole three minutes and 19 seconds, as he found himself in a dangerous situation against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

Couture would eventually put the former boxing star in an arm-triangle choke, putting an end to his career once and for all.

Thankfully.

Kimo Leopoldo Loses His Identity

9 of 10

There are many words that can describe the actions of Kimo Leopoldo during his MMA career.

Dumb is a very fitting one.

For some reason or another, Leopoldo felt the need to enter the Octagon with an enormous cross attached to his back.

No explanation needed on this one.

You're not Jesus, Kimo.

Bob Sapp Takes on Cartoon

10 of 10

Bob Sapp was set to take on Akihito Tanaka at Dynamite!!! 2008.

Or so we thought.

Instead, replacing Tanaka was a cartoon character (still Tanaka).

Sapp would eventually win the fight by way of knockout but will have to live with the fact that he ruined many children's nights as he finished off a cartoon.
