Stephen Curry Injury: Weak Ankle Will Plague Golden State Warriors' Season
Stephen Curry is the best player on the Warriors' roster.
The 6’3”, 185-pound guard is going into his third year in the league and has been a stud thus far, evidenced by his 21 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals over the powerhouse Chicago Bulls.
That’s why it is so concerning that he continually struggles with right ankle ailments.
Curry put up those incredible numbers before rolling his ankle and sitting out the final six minutes.
The Warriors superstar spoke about the injury in a postgame interview.
"It’s still frustrating that this keeps coming up. I had this all last year so for me it’s just trying to figure out why it keeps doing that and try to get it stronger.
"
New head coach Mark Jackson said that Curry was available to return to the game, but it didn’t seem like it would have been for anything significantly stressful on his ankle.
The guard said, “I tied my shoelaces in case I needed to shoot free throws or something down the stretch.”
It’s obvious he was in pain and you may remember he underwent surgery back in May in an attempt to strengthen this same ankle. The procedure was deemed a success and for the first 42 minutes of last night’s game, it absolutely looked to be of no hindrance.
By re-injuring this ankle, Curry may be putting himself at risk to miss more games and feel lingering effects throughout the year. He missed eight games and wasn’t 100 percent for a number of others in the 2010-11 season.
This doesn’t bode well for the young Warriors team who absolutely needs their superstar healthy to put together a winning record and contend for a playoff spot.
If he is forced to sit out for an extended stretch and can no longer shoot his silky-smooth trademark jumper without pain, it’s going to be an arduous task to get this team to improve upon their 36-win season.
