Lamar Odom: Mavs' New Star Spoils Debut with Ejection vs. Miami Heat

Nicholas GossDec 25, 2011

Dallas Mavericks forward Lamar Odom was ejected from Sunday's game against the Miami Heat for a technical foul, spoiling his debut with the defending champs.

The Heat destroyed the Mavericks 105-94 on Sunday, but the 11-point win didn't show the true domination of Miami's performance. A late Dallas rally in garbage time made the score more respectable.

Odom argued with a referee and was tossed after being given his second technical foul of the game. His wife, Khloe Kardashian, was puzzled by the ejection and didn't remember seeing two technical fouls.

This is the second straight game Odom has been ejected from. Last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Odom was ejected during Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Mavericks, a game that Dallas won to sweep L.A. out of the playoffs.

Odom has looked disinterested all game for the Mavericks and hasn't fit in well thus far.

After seeing the ejection again, it's clear that referee Scott Foster made a terrible decision. The officiating in the Christmas Day games has been completely awful, and it started in the day's first game between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics when referee Joey Crawford handed out a few bogus technical fouls.

The lockout has certainly taken its toll on the players as most of the play has been sloppy today, but the referees appear to be unaffected, as ESPN's Brian Windhorst noted on Twitter.

With the NBA getting a late start to the season, the fans are already angry that they haven't been able to see their favorite teams and players for a full 82-game schedule.

The last thing the fans want right now is for the referees to make themselves part of the show by handing out these stupid technical fouls.

There's no need for the Mavericks to worry about Odom right now and it's pretty clear he was going to be in Dallas for one year anyway, but his tenure in "Big D" hasn't started off too well.

It's tough to change teams in the manner he did and feel comfortable right away, but Odom is way too talented to under perform and get ejected from games.
