Stephen Curry Injury: Warriors Guard Iffy for Opening Night
The Golden State Warriors have gotten some good news regarding Stephen Curry's injured right ankle.
According to a report from Matt Steinmetz of CSNBayArea.com, a Wednesday MRI revealed that Curry did not suffer any ligament damage when he rolled his right ankle against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. He will be listed as day-to-day.
However, Steinmetz notes that it is "unknown" if Curry will be ready to play in the Warriors' season-opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night.
Curry said he is hoping for the best.
"Hoping for the Christmas Miracle," he said, via Marcus Thompson II of the Bay Area News Group.
Curry hurt his ankle adjusting to a crossover from Kings rookie guard Jimmer Fredette shortly before the end of the first half. He was in noticeable pain while he tried to walk it off, and he ultimately had to be helped to the locker room.
He did not return to the game, and was seen leaving Power Balance Pavilion on crutches.
Curry had surgery to strengthen his right ankle over the offseason after spraining it multiple times during the 2010-2011 season, forcing him to miss a total of eight games. He had to have two ligament tears repaired, and he wasn't cleared for full contact until the middle of September.
The seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry was the Warriors' second-leading scorer in 2010-2011, averaging just over 18 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 93 percent from the free-throw line.
