Los Angeles Clippers' Preseason Beatdown of Lakers Is Sign of Things To Come
Last night, the new-look Los Angeles Clippers put on a show in one of the most hyped preseason games of all time.
The result was a 114-95 beatdown of the Los Angeles Lakers.
More importantly, it's a sign of things to come.
The Clippers showed off their new lineup to great success. Chris Paul was fantastic is his first chance to run the Clippers offense, and having a second point guard on the floor in Chauncey Billups proved to be big.
Having not just one, but two playmakers on the floor for the Clippers gives them plenty of options. The ball doesn't always have to be in Paul's hands for the offense to run effectively.
The scary part is that they are just going to get better. Remember that this was the first time this unit has been together in a game situation. Once Paul and Billups realize where and when their new teammates like the ball, the Clippers offense can go to another level.
One preseason game is a very small sample size, but take this into account. Blake Griffin and Caron Butler weren't really factors at all and the Clippers were that good.
What are they going to be like when Griffin isn't in foul trouble?
What will they be like when Griffin is giving them 25 points and 12 rebounds nightly instead of the 12 and five he put up last night?
The answer is that the Clippers have the potential to be scary good.
The transition game is only going to get better, as is the half-court offense. The more time they play together, the more they will gel on the defensive end as well.
They may not be deep enough as a team at the moment, but they have enough parts to contend.
It was only one preseason win in Clipperland, but it was definitely a sign of things to come.
