The UFC's 15 Best Fight Posters of All Time

Dan HiergesellDec 20, 2011

UFC events are becoming more stacked than ever, especially over the last few years.

However, fights that are forever etched in historical stone, past and present, still serve as some of the most entertaining Octagon bouts ever witnessed by the world of MMA.

Legendary fighters, upset title victories and all-around classic fights round out the best of the best.

What better way to encapsulate the events that capture our hearts than creating a bad-ass poster?

Here are the 15 best fight posters of all time.

15. UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion

1 of 15

Simply one of the most straightforward UFC posters of all time.

Champion vs. Champion.

Rampage Jackson brought the UFC light heavyweight title, and Dan Henderson brought PRIDE's middleweight championship, culminating in an awesome poster featuring both legends of the sport.

Not to mention the London, England aspect of UFC 75, pitting Michael Bisping against a hungry Matt Hamill.

14. UFC 58: Franklin vs. Loiseau

2 of 15

There aren't too many things to take from UFC 58.

Rich Franklin retained his UFC middleweight title via unanimous decision, stretching all three rounds against David Loiseau, while Georges St. Pierre beat BJ Penn via split decision.

Regardless, the poster featuring commemorative American and Canadian flags simply encapsulates the diversity that the UFC offers.

Of course, the United States prevailed.

13. UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn II

3 of 15

Whenever a UFC event poster features a former boxing champion, it has to be regarded as special.

Well, in this case, that notion reigns true.

James Toney took on UFC legend Randy Couture in a matchup that settled the age-old question of MMA vs. boxing.

Not to mention Frankie Edgar vs. BJ Penn II.

Easily a top-15 poster.

12. Ortiz vs. Shamrock III: Final Chapter

4 of 15

Even though Ken Shamrock was as washed up as an empty seashell, this poster immediately demonstrated the sheer hatred between both fighters.

Tito Ortiz was ready to close the door on their trilogy, and Shamrock was eager to display he still possessed some use to the UFC and Dana White.

Not to mention it was a free event on Spike.

11. UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem

5 of 15

I realize UFC 141 hasn't been settled yet, but it's right around the corner.

And what an event it's going to be.

Just look at this poster. I'm still trying to gather my thoughts about the sheer size of Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem. Let's just say they're pretty jacked.

If this fight goes down as many people think it will, not only will the poster be a top-15 great of all time, but the event itself could do down as one of the best in MMA history.

Merry Christmas indeed.

10. UFC 40: Ortiz vs. Shamrock

6 of 15

Arguably one of the most anticipated and legendary fights in UFC history, Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock seemed to escalate the sport of MMA to an entirely different level.

Alongside their in-cage antics, this poster just oozes animosity, dispelling any notion that fighters don't go into fights angry.

Add in the fact that the word "Vendetta" serves as a cherry on top, and it's easy to recognize this "in your face" promo as a top-10 beauty ever.

Is it ironic that Ortiz and Shamrock fight posters are becoming a trend?

9. UFC 46: Couture vs. Belfort

7 of 15

What's not to love about this poster?

You have Randy Couture and Vitor Belfort with their respective flags in the background.

You have the Mandalay Bay Events Center serving as an eye-popping backdrop.

You have Miller Lite as a sponsor, and each fighter's name looks like something out of a WWE video game.

By far the flashiest UFC fight poster of all time.

8. UFC 63: Hughes vs. Penn

8 of 15

Quite frankly, I don't have much on this poster.

It's not flashy, doesn't have any angry stare-downs and fails to showcase either Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture or Ken Shamrock.

However, any fight poster that showcases Matt Hughes against BJ Penn deserves an immediate slot in the top 10.

My only question is what the hell they are both looking at (obviously the camera, but come on guys, show some emotion).

7. UFC 81: Mir vs. Lesnar

9 of 15

Uh, yeah, this was Brock Lesnar's first UFC fight and his first UFC fight poster.

So it's basically MMA common sense to put this piece of art amongst other great promos of the past.

As the poster says, "LESNAR ARRIVES IN THE UFC!"

6. UFC 79: Nemesis

10 of 15

UFC 79 was one of the most stacked cards ever, and with stacked cards come stacked fight posters.

This particular fight poster fails to disappoint, delivering two Hall of Fame legends and two future inductees.

Georges St. Pierre

Matt Hughes (HOF)

Chuck Liddell (HOF)

Wanderlei Silva

It's hard to disagree with this one.

5. UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II

11 of 15

This is my personal favorite when it comes to UFC fight posters.

The fight itself between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin wasn't anything spectacular, but the poster stare-down makes everything worthwhile.

No cheesy catch lines, no colorful artistry and no other fighters.

Just Ortiz, Griffin and four eyes that you'd hate to see in a back alley.

4. UFC 47: Ortiz vs. Liddell

12 of 15

Is this as real as it gets?

I'd say so. Nothing says awesome fight poster like a Tito Ortiz-Chuck Liddell good old-fashioned no-blink contest.

Sorry for all the Tito posters, but honestly, there's no other fighter that promotes an event on paper like "The People's Champ."

3. UFC 100

13 of 15

Arguably the most epic event in MMA history, UFC 100 marked the sport's past successes and future conquests in American culture.

What better way to embrace this historic card than offering a fight poster featuring Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Georges St. Pierre, Thiago Alves, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping?

There isn't one.

This could be No. 1, but the next two are too classic to pass up.

2. UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar

14 of 15

Just a mammoth of a match.

Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar battling in the Octagon for the UFC heavyweight championship.

This poster is just sick—Couture being a bad-ass with his tin and Lesnar looking like he's ready to bite off the cameraman's head with his sword tat.

The magnitude of this fight clearly found its way to print.

1. UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. dos Santos

15 of 15

Based on history, there's no other event that has been more important to the growth of MMA in American sports than UFC on FOX 1.

While Cain Velasquez failed to put on a show in getting knocked out by Junior dos Santos in the first round, this UFC event should still rank No. 1 on any list, ever.

It's too important.

As far as the fight poster is concerned, look at it. Tell me that doesn't encompass everything you'd expect from a mixed martial arts promo.

"Two giants. One title. No mercy."
