Week 16 Waiver Wire: Top 5 Pickups That Will Deliver
With most fantasy league title games played in Week 16, the final waiver wire pickups of the season will take place in the next few days.
Whether your team is in the championship game, third-place game or out of the playoffs (well, maybe not out of the playoffs), here are the top five pickups that are guaranteed to deliver for the final fantasy football game of the 2011 season.
Kyle Orton: Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs
1 of 5With so many quality starting fantasy quarterbacks getting injured this year, many teams have been forced to shuffle around their quarterback situation in the second half of the season.
If you need a quarterback for the final week of the season, take a hard look at Kyle Orton. He played extremely well against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and he gets the Oakland Raiders in Week 16.
What impressed me so much about Orton on Sunday was the fact that he didn't turn the ball over against the team with the most interceptions in the NFL. Look for Orton to have another big game as he attempts to create some offseason buzz for his services.
Jake Locker: Quarterback, Tennessee Titans
2 of 5Why the Tennessee Titans continue to start Matt Hasselbeck is a mystery to me.
Whenever Jake Locker has been on the field, he has looked very impressive. On Sunday, after being brought in late in the fourth quarter, Locker once again led the Titans on a late scoring drive to put Tennessee back in the game.
Locker has the tools to be a successful quarterback in the NFL, and with Tennessee out of the playoff picture, it is likely that he will start the final two weeks of the season. He should be able to put up great fantasy numbers over the course of a full game.
It wouldn't surprise me if Locker was the MVP of a few fantasy football championship games.
Donald Brown: Running Back, Indianapolis Colts
3 of 5There were two major reasons why Donald Brown is worth picking up off the waiver wire for Week 16.
The first reason is that he rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He also had the most carries of any running back on the roster.
The second reason is that the Indianapolis Colts won their first game of the season thanks to Brown's huge game. This means that the high point of Indianapolis' season is in large part because of Brown, so it is likely that he will continue to get carries during next week's game.
If Brown has a similar game next week, he could be the turning point in your final game of the season.
Darrius Heyward-Bey: Wide Receiver, Oakland Raiders
4 of 5Now that Darrius Heyward-Bey is healthy, he is starting to put it together late in the season for the Oakland Raiders.
After a solid showing against the Green Bay Packers last week, Heyward-Bey had a huge game against the Detroit Lions. He had eight receptions for 155 yards and a touchdown.
He's clearly become the top target for Carson Palmer, and with the Raiders still suffering injuries in their receiving corps, Heyward-Bey should continue to get plenty of looks his way.
Right now, Heyward-Bey is absolutely worth starting at the flex position.
Brent Celek: Tight End, Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 5While the offense for the Philadelphia Eagles has been fairly inconsistent during the 2011 season, they've started to play much better the past two weeks.
This week, tight end Brent Celek put together an impressive game with 156 receiving yards and a touchdown against one of the better defenses in the league. With DeSean Jackson rather insignificant right now, Celek is taking advantage of more passes his way.
Even though tight end isn't the most important position on the field, if Celek has another big week in Week 16, he could easily carry your team to a final victory.
