Tim Tebow and Denver Broncos Have Supplanted Dallas Cowboys as "America's Team"

Chris TrapassoDec 13, 2011

There's really no question in my mind—Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos are America's team.

The Dallas Cowboys no longer have that distinction.

Why, you ask?

It's simple.

Tebow and his 2011 Broncos' club embody many characteristics revered by the sports-loving society of today.

Underdogs

Americans root for underdogs.

Actually, it's something that's ingrained in all humans. We root for the guys who are supposed to get clobbered and humiliated.

Isn't that what the Broncos have been all season, and even more so since Tebow took over as the starter?

They've won against all odds during No. 15's time behind center and, for the most part, have done so in dramatic fashion.

Continual drama—something else that draws us in every Sunday.

Achievement

Rooting for underdogs is only amusing when the underdog pulls off improbable victories. The Broncos have done that seven times with Tebow over the last two months.

We cling to hope for the collective group of under-appreciated guys and each week, right when hope has seemingly faded away, the Broncos give fans another reason to believe.

Mushy, I know—but true.

Polarizing Status

What made the Cowboys "America's Team" in the past was the fact that for as many people who become devoted followers, just as many developed a deep hatred.

The same goes for this Broncos club.

I don't necessarily understand what you could hate about Tebow, but there's a rather large faction of fans that can't stand to hear his name anymore and think the Broncos are extremely overrated.

He's easily the most polarizing athlete in the U.S. today.

Essentially, many are waiting for Tebow to fall flat on his face and this "facade" to come to an end.

Wasn't that what many wanted for Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys in the 1990s and for the Tony Romo-led 'Boys of today?

The Draw

Whether you continually find yourself Tebowing' in the living room or are totally fed up with "Tebow-magic", you're watching the Broncos on Sunday.

Admit it.

Being the most closely covered and overly publicized team that's every TV network's dream is the final necessity in being our country's team.

It's easy. The Denver Broncos are the newest, polarizing yet stunningly successful "America's Team."

I don't see that label going away for a long time, especially with Tim Tebow as the quarterback.
