DeMarco Murray Injury: Cowboys Season Was Already over Before Rookie Hurt Ankle

Alex KayDec 12, 2011

The Dallas Cowboys had no chance of making the postseason before rookie sensation DeMarco Murray went down for the rest of the year with a fractured ankle against the New York Giants yesterday.

They simply aren’t a team that wins clutch games when they matter most and were bound to choke in their most important contest of the season.

It’s not just because of Tony Romo, or Dan Bailey, but rather a collective effort of everyone on the Cowboys offense, defense and special teams unit. It’s in their coaching, game preparation, body language and DNA.

This team doesn’t have the heart to win the NFC East and can’t perform when it matters most.

Their latest kick in the stomach came courtesy of Jason Pierre-Paul, who blocked a potential game-tying field goal with barely any time left on the clock after Tom Coughlin iced Bailey.

With that, Dallas has given up control of the division and now needs to get past Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and more than likely beat the Giants in Week 17 to have a hope for the playoffs. It won’t happen.

Murray would not have saved them from blowing their season with four games left.

One player cannot save this team.

The organization needs a total overhaul and that starts with owner Jerry Jones giving up his GM position and allowing a more modern football mind to come in and clean house.

Perhaps addressing the QB position to get a winner rather than someone who puts up gaudy stats would also help.

It’s going to be a long, painful process for Dallas to rebuild, but at least they have a running back of the future in Murray.
