Greg Jennings Injury: WR's Knee Injury Won't Kill Packers' Quest for Perfection

Zachary D. RymerDec 11, 2011

Today's game between the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders was never really in doubt. The Packers drew first blood, and they kept on drawing blood.

At the moment, the two teams are making their way through the fourth quarter, but there's not much drama. The Packers are leading by something like a million points. Another fun day at the office for the Packers, who are about to improve to 13-0.

However, it's not all good at Lambeau Field. The Packers got a bit of bad news in the third quarter when star wide receiver Greg Jennings went down with a knee injury.

Per Pro Football Talk, Jennings hurt his left knee when he was tackled on the tail end of an eight-yard catch. He was clearly in pain as he retreated to the sideline, and ultimately had to be carted to the locker room.

Jennings has not been able to return. I'm assuming he won't be able to.

Needless to say, this is kind of a big blow for Aaron Rodgers and the Pack's offense. Jennings is Green Bay's leading receiver, and arguably Rodgers' most dangerous target. If he has to miss some time, the Packers are going to miss him.

But if you're thinking Jennings' injury is going to take the wind out of the Pack's sails, you better think again. That's not going to happen.

Though Jennings might be Rodgers' most dangerous target, he's hardly Rodgers' only target. No quarterback in the NFL is as good at spreading the ball around as Rodgers is, and it helps that none of his receivers have subpar talent. These guys are legit.

As such, I'm going to assume right here and now that Green Bay's offense isn't going to skip a beat if it has to play without Jennings. It will be a man down, but it will still be elite.

If so, the Pack's march to perfection will continue. They're too good to be undone by one injury.

Well, maybe not if Aaron Rodgers is the man to go down. Hope it never comes to that, people of Green Bay.

Update: Sunday, Dec. 11 at 8:10 p.m. ET

Courtesy of ESPN's Adam Schefter, we have an update concerning Jennings' injury:

To be sure, it could be worse than a knee sprain. But like Schefter hinted, we don't necessarily know just how bad Jennings is injured. He might be fine, and he might not be fine.

Stay tuned.
