Patriots vs. Redskins: Key Stats for New England at the Half
In a matchup of what is clearly a good team vs. what one that is struggling, the Patriots take on the Redskins at FedEx Field. The Pats have been projected to demolish Washington today, but the "Any Given Sunday" rule is always in effect. The Redskins have put up a brave fight at home against the projected division winners. Here are some key stats for New England at the half:
1. Forced Turnovers
The New England defense came to play today. On Washington's second drive of the game, the Patriots pressured Rex Grossman into a fumble in his own endzone. Big Vince Wilfork hopped on top of it, resulting in an easy seven points for the Pats. With Tom Brady getting this kind of help from his D, this could be a runaway.

2. Gronkowski
Rob Gronkowski doesn't go down easily. His skills are and athleticism are so incredible that one his incredible receiving feats persuaded Mike Shanahan to risk a timeout on an ultimately fruitless out-of-bounds challenge. On that 49-yard play, Gronk got the Pats almost into the red zone. On the next, he broke the single-season TD record for a tight end. That kid is made of amazing stuff.
3. Time of Possession
The Pats are right with the Redskins in this game, but have held the ball for much less time. They have not relied on the rush as much as the Skins, preferring to rely on Tom Brady's arm. He's completing his passes at less than 50 percent, and the score is slightly misleading due to the aforementioned defensive touchdown.
4. Ochocinco Sighting
With all of the Patriots' offensive weapons, I almost forgot Chad Ochocinco was on this team. He caught his only target, for 15 yards. So far, it's been a TE-heavy first half for the Pats. The NFL's leading receiver, Wes Welker, has not seen a lot of action, catching only one pass for eight yards. Look for Tom Brady to target Welker more often in this game if it remains close.
