9 Receivers Who Can Help the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012
We are all waiting for 2012. Supposedly, that is when the Jaguars find the pieces to their offensive puzzle and will either draft receivers, find receivers in free agency or do both.
I would hope to think free agency this year would bring two receivers and the draft would land them a stud or two.
This past free-agency class did wonders to rebuild a porous defense. Can it do the same thing for the offense?
If Blaine Gabbert is to find his true calling in the NFL, he needs more quality on either side of him. He needs guys who can go across the middle, leap over defenders and find the little pocket in the end zone.
That has not happened this season.
These are receivers who could interest the team. Regardless of who is named head coach after the season, this small-market team needs a big-market name. And with stud receivers to go along with Maurice Jones-Drew, the hope is that Gabbert can mature and develop in a new offense.
9. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City
1 of 9A free agent in 2012, Bowe has been part of a Kansas City offense that at times is very good. And at times, it is very bad.
Bowe is a tall and thick receiver who will garner a lot of attention in the offseason.
Will the Jaguars get in on the bidding?
8. Vincent Jackson, San Diego
2 of 9Jackson did pretty well against the Jaguars last Monday night.
Instead of him beating the Jags, why not join them?
Jackson is young (29) and still has good years ahead of him. He has not always gotten along with the San Diego Chargers front office, so maybe a change of scenery would be a good thing.
Going from one sunny coast to another may be attractive to the 6'5", 240-pound receiver.
7. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis
3 of 9He has torched the Jaguars over the years, catching passes from Peyton Manning.
Could Wayne be released after the season and find another home?
He went to the University of Miami, so Florida could be an option for the aging veteran.
He still has skills and could provide a great gap between draft picks and dependable receivers who could make Gabbert's second season easier.
6. T.Y. Hilton, Florida International
4 of 9If you do not know who he is, you soon will.
Hilton is on everyone's radar. He has speed to burn; and at 5'10" and 183 pounds, he can go across the middle.
If Cecil Shorts can become more productive, these two could be part of the Jaguars receiving corp for the next decade.
5. Michael Floyd, Notre Dame
5 of 9Personally, I believe when it is all said and done, Floyd will be a better receiver from this upcoming draft than anyone else on the board.
The Notre Dame star is the best receiver to come out of Indiana since Tim Brown.
He gives the Jaguars several options with his size and speed (6'3", 223 pounds) and may help in the return game.
He could be the best receiver since Jimmy Smith on the Jags roster.
4. Marques Colston, New Orleans
6 of 9OK, listen to this scenario.
Pete Carmichael gets an interview for the Jaguars coaching job. As offensive coordinator, he looks to sign the free-agent receiver and make him the centerpiece of Jacksonville's passing game.
It sounds reasonable, but is it?
Colston is Drew Brees' main target, but Brees has five or six targets to choose from. Gabbert is limited.
Could the Hofstra grad make a career move?
3. Alshon Jeffrey, South Carolina
7 of 9I have heard he could be the second pick in the 2012 draft, depending on who is in that slot.
If it is the Jaguars, hopefully they will jump on him.
Jeffery got his feet wet playing against the best college talent in the country.
He is a tall (6'4") receiver who can go up and make a catch in traffic or find the back of the end zone against smaller defensive backs.
When was the last time you saw a Jaguars receiver do that?
2. Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State
8 of 9Blackmon was a huge part of the Cowboys' success this season.
We knew Dez Bryant was going to be a good player in the NFL when he was drafted by the Cowboys. Blackmon will be better.
He is not as tall (6'1") or big (215 pounds) as Jeffery from South Carolina, but he has great feet and breaks well on the ball.
Hopefully the Jaguars have him and Jeffery at the top of their draft list.
1. Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis
9 of 9The man from Mount Union, Garcon has been a good player this season for the downtrodden Colts.
Could he become the next great receiver in the Indianapolis offense?
That depends on who plays quarterback next season and who will be drafted to aid their offensive woes.
Garcon will be a free agent, and he could seek more money elsewhere.
