Week 14 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Tim Tebow and Big Names Best Left on Your Bench
Tim Tebow hasn't just taken over the real world of gridirons and end zones, he has been a star in fantasy football leagues as well. Until this week at least.
Welcome to the last minute, presented by your procrastination. We already have one game under our belt. And some of you have to send a thank-you card to Ben Roethlisberger for being more man than you will ever be and continuing to play despite losing an ankle.
Two teams worth of fantasy options are in the books, but that doesn't mean the work is done. There are still stars that will kill any chances you have of making the playoffs in your respective leagues.
For those already in the playoffs, it is time that you cut your losses before some of these players send you packing for an early winter.
Whether it be bragging rights or a league pool that you have been itching to win for weeks, this is some real serious business.
With that in mind, we have collected the best of the worst. Here are the names that you are so used to starting that they may just linger in your active roster one week too long.
Consider this a friendly warning. The wake-up call sounds as you are assured to be rocked if you keep the next gents in your lineup.
I hate to say it, but Tim Tebow is one of them. I know he has proved to be a "winner" and other such vague praise, but this week he will be another, and that's utterly mediocre.
Here is the players that are best riding pine in your roster. Let's jump right in.
Tim Tebow, QB
1 of 5Tim Tebow has been one of the best waiver-wire signings a fantasy owner could make. The best has to go to Cam Newton, who was available in a great many leagues in Week 1.
But you can't dismiss the efforts that Tebow has given in his stint as Broncos starting quarterback. Now, you have to consider that there are a few games in which his stats were more middling than marvelous.
In most Yahoo leagues, he scored a 14 and then a 16 against the Lions and Jets, respectively. Tebow doesn't light it up against great defenses; no duh. This week, he gets a Bears defense that has been far more stout and versatile in the second half of the season.
This is the week you sit him on the bench.
Kevin Kolb, QB
2 of 5Here is a conundrum for Kolb owners. He looked primed and ready to delight at the start of the season and has come back from injury to put up 17 points against the Cowboys.
So you would think that he is on his way back to form. Halt that thought, because he has a horrible matchup this week against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Niners are a stingy defense that are guaranteed to stifle any progress he can hope to make this week. If you are on the fence, get off it. Sit him.
DeAngelo Williams, RB
3 of 5By now, you really should have ditched all hope to figure out the Carolina Panthers backfield. There just aren't enough touches to go around after Cam Newton.
Williams has shown flashes of fantasy brilliance, but this isn't the week to hope for such things. The Falcons defend the run amazingly well. This is a no-brainer sit.
Dwayne Bowe, WR
4 of 5This has been an up and down year for the Chiefs star receiver. As fantasy owners know, it's been filled with far more downs.
The Chiefs disarray on offense will only continue against a solid defense in the New York Jets. Bowe will have to settle for what he can get in passes his way. The Jets secondary will single him out, giving you a horrible fantasy option.
Brandon Pettigrew
5 of 5This isn't just a suggestion to sit. This is a warning to get as far from Pettigrew as you can. I had high hopes for the budding talent to be a star this season, and he has shown that he can be just that.
After an awful game in which he was flagged for a personal foul, Pettigrew looks to be a tight end that will be happy to just get his fair share of touches this week. I would get out while you still can.
